Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo considering more Wii U games for Switch, against straight ports, approach to IPs

If they keep porting more Wii U games I will boycott Nintendo forever. This is screwing everyone who bought a Wii U.

how is screwing them over? Nintendo spent money, time effort- to develop the Wii U and games for the Wii U. Unfortunately not a ton of people bought them and the system was generally a failure. Nintendo didn't force anyone to buy their product, and there certainly isn't a clause or contract that they're permanently stuck to the platform

they stuck around a lot stronger than Sony did with the Vita.

You're being kind of petty- I mean it's fine if you don't want to get a Switch or Nintendo product. Fair enough. but to imply that Nintendo is 'screwing' Wii U owners be rereleasing games that did relatively poorly on the Wii U because there was a very small install base? that's absurd. You realize Nintendo is a business and they invest to make these games right? Logically if you like the games or like the developer you should want them to get SALES. and you should want more people to experience a series you dig.

No one who currently owns a Wii U is forced to buy a Switch and rebuy the same games again. And debatably, conceptually, the Switch and Wii U are fairly far apart. One being part portable system, the other entirely for home. if after year 3 of the Wii U Nintendo had popped up quickly with a new system and abandoned you guys and launched a new console with a bunch of ports- that'd be screwed up. But that's not what they did at all. They waited 5 years and for most of that period supported the system. Get over it.

porting potentially can give life to the installments/series that did poorly on the Wii U, pays back development costs, and fills in library schedule release holes.

If we reach a point where Nintendo is just throwing out ports and not bringing new stuff- then I'm all for shitting on them even harder. But Zelda was new for both consoles simultaneously- and Splatoon 2, Arms, Mario Odyssey- we're seeing at least some effort from Nintendo to bring new stuff

They should have waited until these games were very old to port them, just like they did with all their other systems. I bought my Wii U to play exclusive games, not incomplete Switch titles. I don't care how much money they lost on the Wii U, that doesn't justify them screwing their customers.

Nintendo should port every WIi U game to Switch at this point. For a system that sold so poorly, it's a no brainer to make the games available to a larger audience.

Seriously. Forget the salty fans- if it means more people get to enjoy legendary games such as Mario Kart or Mario Maker, then so be it

You can't do it aimlsey. Or the switch will become the new Port Station.

If you're buying a system just for ports, then why even buy the Switch? Just wait 5 years and they'll "port" all the good Switch games to their next console.

yeah wait 5 years, 10 years, 20 years, you'll be dead at some point. That is possibly the worst logic I've ever heard.

I actually do that with a fair amount of games. If I missed getting a series for whatever reason. I'll know its gonna be ported at some point. That's what I did with Kingdom Hearts. Never played them till the ports. I won out.

Screw that, makes sequels. If you guys really wanted Wii U games you should've bought a Wii U.

Good Point.

I'm okay with remasters or remakes from games wich are two gens old, I'm just not interested in another Wii U Deluxe game.

But yeah if people want these games now cool for them but Nintendo won't see any money from me for these.

thats ok they'll be seeing (and have been seeing money) from a bunch of people

That's one way to look at it. But another is that what's profitable for them and helps stimulate sales also helps avoid that a situation like that happens again.
I can understand the feeling, as people who played Tales of Vesperia on 360 felt like Beta testers for the improved PS3 version that came out later on with new playable characters and systems, etc. But what's done is done and now they can either make the best of it, or not.

those Wii u games werent even incomplete though. Plus people need to grow up, when you buy a system or game their is no garantee that the system wont die a horrible death or the games wont go somewhere else.

Smash remaster/DX will happen, anyone who think it won't is just on denial.
Mario Maker could see an early sequel like splatoon or just a remaster, but one of those will happen definitely.

IPs that already have something announced (yoshi, kirby, Mario,XBX) won't
Niche games (W101, Bayonetta 2, XBX) won't.

Things like Donkey Kong and Paper Mario, can go both ways.

And Golden Sun will happen, in my dreams.

What about porting 3DS games...I'd LOVE to play Ocarina of Time 3D and Majora's Mask 3D on the big screen, pleeeeease.

This is just pathetic.

I mean, why are people so obsessed with Wii U ports? There needs to be a justifiable reason to port Wii U games, and portability is not one of them.

Nintendo are already getting bashed for two Wii U ports (Zelda and MK8D) and the Switch essentially being a system "not worth owning" if you already have a Wii U. I never understood why people thought that porting games like Xenoblade Chronicles X and Tokyo Mirage Sessions would be on their radar either, because it's not profitable. Just because a system has a higher install base, doesn't mean the game will sell better. Especially carrying that stigma that it's technically an old game. They are naturally niche titles that just don't appeal to mass market, even with strong advertising. If these games want "a second chance" they should come with sequels. Xenoblade 2 is still Xeno, too.

From a business perspective, Smash and Mario Maker ONLY:

Smash:

  • Likely not getting another release until the next decade. Sakurai was injured during development and implied there wouldn't be another Smash until a long time.
  • Smash sells like hotcakes, and some people only buy Nintendo systems just to play Smash...it's defined itself as a franchise that has been on every Nintendo home console since the 64, and treehouse outcry etc.
  • Amiibo functionality with Switch and Smash Bros. has amiibo of every character.

Mario Maker:

  • When Wii U servers cut off, this game is practically unplayable
  • Huge install base and users have made over 10 million courses. They created a community that wouldn't make sense killing.
  • People have youtube careers based on this game Dashie, GrandPOOBear, CarlSagan42, RyuKahr, etc. taking off servers will make them lose a huge chunk of their fanbase, and Wii U servers dying at some point next year seems inevitable.

yup real bashing, thats why they've been in the top 10 selling games worldwide since they both debutted, people must be so displeased. And if someone is willing to pay to play a port just for the portablity on Switch (which is very likely) who are you to tell them they are wrong for wanting that? I kinda agree on your point about niche games getting remastered but screw it, they do it on the other 2 all the time and they dont get near the complaints that the Switch is getting.

Pikmin trilogy (because I'm throwing my money at the switch screen)
Metroid Prime trilogy (to get people hyped for 4)

Do it!

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Bayonetta 2 and Smash are no brainers. Those should be highest on the port list.
