Forums - Gaming - I actually agree with Phil: Sony's Reasoning For Blocking Cross-Play Is "Unhealthy,"

So you will stick to assuming thats the case. No worries.

You mean stick to assuming that Microsoft cares more about their bottom line than about "good will"?  Microsoft?  The company that routinely raids and kills start-up rivals?  The company that often gets accused of anti-competitive business practices?  The company behind GFWL?  Yeah, absolutely.  Actually, I would assume that of any large corporation but especially Microsoft.

At the end of the day MS, is allowing cross play this gen. Regardless of the excuses you want to make to try and make them look bad. There doing something good for the gaming industry and even Nintendo has no issues participating. Sony could have made a better excuse instead the one they gave is poor. Full stop.

PS- I am not sticking up for Xbox's decisions last gen either. Blocking cross play is stupid period. However we are in the 8th gen now not the 7th.

I never said a single word about agreeing with Sony's decision.  Where have I made an excuse?  Go ahead, show me.  I simply pointed out A) you were wrong when you said their previous policy didn't follow them into this gen, and 2) that Spencer isn't doing this for the health of the industry, he's doing it for Microsoft and Xbox.

It's almost as laughable as their reasoning for blocking EA Access. Sadly in both cases you have people arguing about Sonys decisions were good for them LOL.

if xbox one is ahead of the ps4 worldwide, they would block cross play just like they did last gen

Exactly, some people dont realize that at the end everything is a BUSINESS and its all about the MONEY !!! Most of the games on PS4 have bigger playerbases than all other platforms combined so why should Sony help them and potentially lose PS4 Sales!?!? Of course the reasons Sony said are stupid but they dont want to say its because of the money and PS4 Sales, but i would rather say nothing and when there are people who cry about it and attack Sony for it!? Who cares, as long PS4 keeps selling like it does, they wont give a f*ck !!

Microsoft would do the same, in fact they did it last geneartion when they were the market leader, but now they are the company that can only benefit from it so of course they are going for it. And when i see people complain about the 4ThePlayers Hashtag, do you really think, this includes Xbox, PC, Nintendo players, hell nooo. !!

I just find it funny how people dont get that at the end of the day every god damn company is a Business and its all about the money, but comments like from Jim ryan wont help of course, just Shut up and say nothing about it, thats the best way imo.

I would agree if you were talking about something other than Minecraft. The playerbases on Xbox One are massive and the same goes for all platforms. Adding in PS4 isn't going to matter in that regard.

Laughable, or rather sad, is the fact that the community is supporting unethical business practices and the corrosive route companies as Electronic Arts and Microsoft are taking.

Content control is imperative, and when a platform holder doesn't care about content and progress... see exihibit A: Steam. Or an event that happened long long time ago, that proves how important limitations are.

If Phillyboy and Microsoft are so sincere about CrossPlay and content exclusivity, then why don't they provide the latest Minecraft patch to PS4? Yeah, right. XboxLive on Playstation. Freeloading on the success of others. It's a real shame Nintendo caved in.

They are as imcompentent as it gets, completely misjudged the market and failed miserably with their multimedia box, and now wanna take a more familiar, easier route. Creeping with their (bought) software into hardware that isn't theirs.

This might make one worry about the impact on future games...
if MS was actually making lots of compelling games people wanted to play on different platforsm.

Sony is being anti-consumer, but it's an expected strategy for them. Anyway, the game on Switch will demand a Xbox Live login. Anyone thinking that Sony would ever make a PS4 game demand a XBL login is purely delusional.

lol, what "corrosive" routes are EA or MS taking? Is this another one of these doomsday tin foil hat theories we saw when EA Access launched about how it would lead to Activion Access and Ubi Access and blah blah? Seems none of that happened. Seems the only other thing that spawned was Origin Access, EA's own service just extended to PC. So now another platform gets to experience the great service while PS4 owners are still waiting for Sony to get their act together.

Cool story, bro. Not sure how it relates to the discussion at hand though. We're talking about Minecraft and Rocket League.. two immensely popular and established games. Furthermore we're talking about Xbox Live, the best network around.

It's not "XBL on Playstation". You simply log into a Microsoft account, because you're playing a Microsoft game. Same as many other publishers. You ignore Rocket League, which does not require an XBL sign in. The rest of that just seems like petty issues you have with MS on a pretty personal level and frankly I don't care where on the doll MS touched you.
