Forums - Nintendo - BOLD Prediction: Monster Hunter World will release on Switch within 2 years of its initial release

Yay or nay?

Yay 58 31.69%

Nay 69 37.70%

Capcom did 9/11 56 30.60%

Total:183

I don't count on Capcom to keep console exclusives exclusive.

If Nintendo pony'd up the money for it to come to 3DS, they'll do it for Switch too. Capcom will want that deal pretty badly when they see MHW sells worse than previous iterations and at a higher development cost.

In Japan - Monster Hunter XX will forever be ahead of MHW

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Bold prediction indeed

I think Capcom will release a different version of MH rather than World though

That includes special editions or inferior editions with some stuff left out or some gameplay changed.

And amiibos too!

Also, another prediction.
Monster Hunter 5 will release on Switch, and sell 3-5X better than Monster Hunter World on all platforms combined.

Really.... and what sales are you expecting then?

Also MH: World is Monster Hunter 5, that's what it was called during development. But I guess that doesn't stop them naming a future game 5.

Based on historical data: Monster Hunter World sells 600-1M while Monster Hunter 5 on Switch sells 4-5M (up to 8 if a G version releases).

The highest Playstation and XBox home console Monster Hunters were Monster Hunter 2 on PS2 at 630K and Monster Hunter Frontier Online on Xbox 360 at 130K. It's not nearly as popular among those userbases. PC sales will be negligible, probably under 100K unless they sell it for very cheap.

On the other hand, Monster Hunter 4, on 3DS, sold 7.5M units between both versions. All of the high selling Monster Hunter games are on handheld.

Another factor to consider is the game sells best in Japan, where Nintendo is King. This is where the bulk of Monster Hunter sales will occur, and most MH fans will have Nintendo hardware, but not Sony or Microsoft. While handhelds declined significantly worldwide, in Japan 3DS has is nearing 23M units; it's traditional home consoles that declined significantly in Japan. With Pokemon and other handheld franchises landing on Switch, it will easily sell through 16M+ units in Japan, while PS4 will land in the 5-6M range lifetime; far less than the userbase which bought earlier Monster Hunter games on Playstation home consoles.

Thus the reasons why Monster Hunter 5 on Switch will sell significantly higher than Monster Hunter World.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I very much doubt the switch can run it, much less at a stable FPS.

They ported PS2 games to PSP and a Wii game to 3DS. If they want to do this, they will.

I think Monster Hunter World G on Switch is possible but a swerve is probably more likely. Either a "Portable/Freedom" kind of spinoff or, potentially, nothing at all. Guess it depends on how well World and XX Switch sell, and on the nature of the deal with Sony.

No, please I don't want this to happen. Keep this game away from any Nintendo console, Nintendo has damaged the Monster Hunter franchise enough over the years...

What a hysterically reaching diatribe.

MHW would already be coming to Switch if it was capable of running it. No other reason to not release it on Switch if you consider the MH fans are mostly on Nintendo and Sony consoles (and absolutely not Xbox).

Fully expect this because the potential is there. And it's Capcom, they can't help porting every game they make.

Development apparently began 4 years ago (As expected, long before NX was even foreshadowed) yet all Capcom could achieve is 30fps on home consoles. Switch would require a lot of time, optimization, downgrade to get it running smoothly.

I agree it's possible but some ignorantly assume if a game doesn't look that great, the developer can make it run on a much weaker system by the flip of a.. switch..

I mean, again, they ported PS2 games to PSP.  I didn't say it would be a simple process. Just that if they want to do it, they will. But I think they'll probably opt for something slightly different. Maybe using the same engine and assets to make a remixed version of the game that is less demanding (smaller areas or something).
