PS2 and Wii, two hugely successful consoles have had Monster Hunter too ... all the top selling MH games are mobile. In the West people do not understand the appeal of MH in Japan is mainly the portable aspect. That's what made it a 3-4 million selling franchise there.

Take that away and you are going to kill a large portion of the franchise.

The question is iwould Capcom prefer to sell selling 3-4 Million in Japan or over 6 Million worldwide, What do you think Soundwave?

3-4 million in Japan is a massive game, but 3-4 Million worldwide is a mildly successful one.

THEY COULD HAVE FREAKING HAD BOTH!

This isn't a zero sum game.

Like I said in the other thread

Strange thing is that I don't think MHW will be a big success neither in japan or the west, Sony's biggest gain is to somewhat stop switch.

Anyway, it's Capcom's fault imo. They fucked up SFV hard (A well made exclusive with content on day one would have performed really good as do most games on ps4, but they fucked the extra advertisement by realeasing a half assed game)

Looks like it'll be a pretty good Monster Hunter game that could do well.
But what reason is there for this not being on the Switch? Because it should be able to run it just fine.
Unless Sony gave Capcom the biggest check they've ever seen to keep this game as far away from Nintendo as possible, I think Capcom just shot themselves in the foot.
Why settle for maaaaybe 2-3 million copies sold worldwide, when you could have easily gotten 5-7 million with the Switch version included, With 3-4 million coming off the Switch version in Japan alone?

Sure, the ideal would be be for MHW to be on switch/pc/ps4/xb1

but if they had the option of choosing between only the switch or what they have now choosen (ps4/xb1/pc) they have choosen the right option, 90 Million + PC says yes right choice

BET. Monster Hunter World, will outsell any previous Monster Hunter Game, Yes I know those appeared on those Software powerhouses the 3ds and PSP /s

Except it wasn't a choice between them.  What was Sony or MS going to do, NOT let the game come on their system.  Regardless of motivation, this is all on Capcom and it's all stupid.

And as has been pointed out, portability was a massive part of MonHun's success.  Console releases can get them new sales, I've been saying that for years.  But not at the EXPENSE of the millions who bought the portable ones.  Capcom is leaving money on the table and no ammount of argumentation or justification can obscure that fact.

Again,  I don't buy this outrage. This isn't at the expense of the portable Nintendo fans.  They get MHXX this year and I presume late next year they will get a MHW spin off possibly renamed MH5. That's not screwing people over.  There seems to be a lot of jealousy going around that Playstation is suddenly getting first dibs on the series again.

What was really screwing people over was not making past titles 3DS/vita.  That genuinely fucked up a lot of people for a whole gen.  But that was exclusive to Nintendo so it's OK -_-

I didn't forget.  Decided one was enough and the OP was image heavy enough as it was.

Photoshop can do wonders for such photos to be paired together.

Besides you've posted more than one in the OP anyway. That is unless you aren't trying to rub any particular groups the wrong way?.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

I wasn't around when they did that.

And them having done it before doesn't make it better, it makes it worse.

Nd it's not Sony or Nintendo fans they've screwed over 6 separate times, it's the Monster Hunter fanbase by dragging the franchise all over the place.  It would be different if just for once in their existence MonHun made a linear jump.  PS2 to 3, Wii to Wii U, PSP to Vita.  But no, they continue to screw around going from PS2 to PSP to Wii to 3DS to Wii U - PSYCH - actually still 3DS to Swi- PSYCH actually PS4.

It's plain stupid, the whole story behind the franchise's spastic movement is dumb.

And you're just making up a future game to excuse them.  And they aren't even localizing MHXX, at least not in a remotely timely manner.  Wouldn't be shocked if they try to sell XX in the west in mid to late 2018 and bitch when it underperforms.  They announced a WORLDWIDE RELEASE for Worlds and told western Switch users to shutup on Twitter.  That's just plain contemptuous.

How many passionate MonHun fans bought a PS3 or Vita or Wii U or Switch anticipating MonHun as inevitable because it was assumed to be - and in the Switch's case Capcom actively encouraged the mindset that it was - the only logical place the series would be?

This kinda of idiocy should be called out, no matter what year.  Period.  Stop shielding them from criticism, they don't deserve your loyalty.

This is the natural evolution of the franchise. It was always gonna evolve to this on more capable hardware. MH's mechanics, missions and separate room structure only existed because PS2 and subsequent weaker hardware couldn't handle a true open world.

I hope they got rid of the grinding. I played Toukiden on PS4 which is like MH, the way progress works just isn't suited for consoles.

Btw, the 4chan rumor was wrong about the staff, the main MH development team is behind this.

What would be left if you take that out? Probably you could do that, but the result wouldn't be MonHUn anymore.

The hunt? The combat? The crafting of gear? The exploration?

You can't honestly tell me you enjoy doing those activities over and over and over. I think you are just afraid of change, but i really believe it would be for the best.

Well yes, I enjoy these gameplay elements. And that's why there are Monster Hunter players and non Monster Hunter players. This is the same discussion as the one that Dark Souls shouldn't be that hard, or if turn-based or real-time RPGs are better. Some people like these gameplay elements, other prefer a different gameplay. I have nothing against someone making another not-MonHun game or even a MonHun-spinoff which has different gameplay. But exactly these you mentioned above are key to MonHun.

What I can get behind is the open world and joining in the midst of the quest. These don't impact gameplay but remove annoyances. I also like these mantles with luring monsters or stealth. That's cool.
