But I like playing my games in bed and on the go. I can't do that with my PC, unless getting the shield, which is....not that great...

I don't mind another console on the market as long as it gives me a unique enough experience to set itself apart from the competition. It just has to be more fan/gamer based driven and NOT corporate driven.

It's called a tablet/mobile phone. Great options there. And if it wasn't for Nintendo we would already have great games and peripherals for those too.

And yet, Nintendo had to go for it, because they can also provide the necessary support. Tablet/mobile games are the ones which doesn't distinguish from the games which caused the game crash back in the days imo. They are rip offs of each other and try to get as much money from you as they possible can.

The mobile market is not the same as the console market. You can't play a 32GB AAA game that is optimized to run efficiently on your phone, with a standardized set of button inputs.
If it wasn't obvious by him bringing up the sheild, those are the kinds of games he was talking about, so a phone/tablet are both terrible options for him.
At this rate, Sony is running out of competition to compete against.

It's up to a developer how good the game is. If you fear that a ripoff might compete with your product, your product isn't good enough.

Yet for some reason the PC market exists and thrives with even more different compositions of devices. How is it different to get a mobile device that can run the games you want to getting a mobile device that can run the things you want?

When Sony hit the right notes, there is no real competition.
Viable brand name throughout the world, 3rd parties wont shun them and a 1st party that consistently puts out brilliant games. Marketing deals for the biggest games, exclusive content for others and a positive word of mouth tend to go a long way.
That said, Microsoft don't need to really "compete" with Sony right now. They've already lost "the war". As long as the Xbox brand continues to be viable in the West, the Xbox will generally be a success. There will always be ports of the biggest 3rd party titles due to the Xbox brand strength in the West and by the end of this generation at least, we're gonna be seeing the Xbox One "Family" of consoles pushing 45 to 50 Million units. They need to make a profitable machine that's easy to develop for, and with Xbox Live continually bringing in money the brand itself will continue to be viable for Microsoft.
You want to know how much Microsoft currently cares about beating the PS4? They're putting 1st party titles on PC.

People have to want to make those games on mobile devices, and manufacurers have to allow games of that size on their platforms. Both of which are not the case. I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't allow apps larger than 3GB on the App Store, and the audience what buys games with actual premium production games, the kind that actually cost money, don't buy them on mobile platforms.
The difference is not that they can't technically be made, but that they won't be. The PC market doesn't have those restrictions.
Well, I guess with the Atari rumours, you may have what you desire!! But I doubt it'll happen, and don't even know if it really needs to happen.
