Little work based on what evidence? If it was so easy publishers would be flocking the service to get themselves an easy cash revenue. But they aren't. It was a streaming service for PS3 and non gaming devices too. I didn't realise that playing a PS3 game on my PS3 constitued backwards compatability. Incredible. And streaming PS3 games on my bravia or bluray player meant I had BC too on non gaming devices? wow... Sony have never called or marketted PSNow as BC. You are free to prove me wrong. Your link clearly states its a 'cloud-based streaming service`. Shuhei clearly doesnt call it BC when asked about it and Sony have not cared about BC as far back as 2015. http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/playstation-on-xbox-backwards-compatibility-it-s-good-we-re-doing-different-things/0151317 And nothing to misunderstand: you have zero evidence that millions of ppl likely use the 360 emulator. And you misunderstand again, Gaikai not only powers PSNow, its used for share play features as well as remote play. and its gotten games consistely released every month since at least June last year. Software support is clearly the mark of a failed service. |
I suspect publishers aren't very interested in PS2 BC because demand isn't great, but it does have about 50 games. People really wanted PS3 BC and for what its worth PS Now has solid software support.
People asked about BC and Sony's answer is officially PS Now. So hey, you can argue with me but that's their answer.
Again, the official Sony website uses PS Now as their solution to BC. You can argue its not BC, but its their solution to BC.
Rare Replay is a lot of BC content and it sold quite well. Many X1 users have 360 content already. Furthermore, X1 users with Gold are getting free 360 games that work on X1. So hey, the math says million are likely using the service even if its not for many hours.
So you think publishers allowing their games on PS Now means success? Oh, I doubt that. Given the many changes that has occured it looks like Sony is struggling to get PS Now off the ground. It only supports PS4 and PC now by the way.

Of course, Ars also did that themselves in the article, admitting the data can't accurately be extrapolated for the entire userbase: All of these sources of potential error make us uncomfortable using our data to directly extrapolate total sales or usage numbers for the entire Xbox playerbase. The numbers and ratios presented in this report should only be considered representative, sampled estimates of the online portion of the Xbox community, which could be significantly different from the total community of Xbox owners. You can try to multiply out our percentages by reported hardware sales numbers if you want, but we wouldn’t stand behind that extrapolation. I don't know why this false narrative is going on in the thread about how BC was viewed by many here as a "game changer", personally I don't remember anyone saying that. Is this something one of the permabanned Xbox trolls said or something? Or "oh hey MS won E3 just with BC!!" uh, who cares? Thats their opinion. We had people here who claimed Sony won E3 a couple years ago just for Shenmue 3, a fucking Kickstarter, which isn't even close to release two years later. Maybe the two or three people who maybe claimed here that MS won E3 just because of BC, actually use the shit out of BC. Most people here understood it was nothing but awesome fan service, which is exactly what it was supposed to be. Also, this number is going to grow a lot with the awesome Xbox GamePass service :) |
Also to add to this is The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy remake was what some claim won Sony the conference.
Only the TLG turned out to be meh in the end and the Final Fantasy JUST BEGAN DEVELOPMENT TWO YEARS LATER!!!
Man people are reaching straws.

So your happy with rebuying all your own games and Remasters? Okay. PC have been doing BC for years. I spent $2000 my on gaming rig and i still love playing my old games on my shiny new hardware. Its a thing called value. The X1 is 2 consoles in one. Thats what BC does. It offers the customers more value. Its not meant to sell more X1s. Its a good deed for those who already own one. |
I can't keep up with new game releases. Only when a great remaster like Windwaker HD comes out I'll revisit a dusty old game. It's different on PC. When I was still gaming on PC, sure I checked out how a bunch of games looked on a shiny new gpu all maxed out. Apart from Half-Life 2 and fsx I didn't replay any of them though.
BC is a nice to have yet I'm happy to buy the Wipeout Omega collection with improved visuals and performance plus access to the 2048 tracks. Even with all that I don't expect to spend too much time on it until a VR mode comes out. Soo much to play, even gaming 2-3 hours a night, no time for old games.

Don't worry. I know what Jim said was retarded.
What I do find funny is people are not reading the data properly. It's not percentage of users but percentage of time. 1.5% is actually not a bad figure.
And people bitching about paying for games you already own. If you seriously want to play your last gen games, why would you even sell your 360 or PS3. Guess what, I want to play PS3 games on the odd occasion so I kept my PS3. Simple!

I mainly bought xbox live gold because of the bonus games per month but have let my xbox live gold account lapse for about a month while I wait for a good price or bonus games I really want. I play 360 games on my xbox one quite a lot. Maybe this is because when xbox live gold lapses you can still play your 360 download games but not your xbox one download games so at the moment I'm restricted with regard xbox one titles that I have purchased at retail plus the 1 game (Elite Dangerous) that I have bought online that isn't a monthly bonus game.
I like to revisit games quite a lot rather than play a game to completion one at a time. I tend to play a game and get bored of it before completion and then move onto something else and come back later to it.

The console that basically requires xbl must have a pretty small demographic of offline users.
