No. Xbox hasnt had the most sales in a generation however there 360 was more successful than the PS3. It gave Xbox a third of the gaming revenue, it was selling at its best prices, it was cheaper to make, and it was a developers dream *cough Cell*

To say the PS3 was more successful on its last couple of years is sad. MS stopped focusing on there 360 for there XB1 and saving there games for there next launch eg Forza 5. Its like if Xbox decided to keep the OG xbox on the market for 20 years and it outsold the PS2 its not what i consider being more successful.

So for Sony making better games and systems? Very debatable. Both Sony and Nintendo cant compete with Xboxs strenght. There online network, there controllers, Xbox has the better FPS franchise etc. Sure Sony and Nintendo have there strenghts too.

As for hardware? Well the OG Xbox and 360 says otherwise.

Xbox 360 sold well in th US but was still consistently outsold worldwide by the PS3 since the day it launched, hence why at the end of the generation it had not only cought up but overtaken, sure microsoft had made more revenue that generation, but the only reason it gained the traction it did was down to it launching a year earlier, had they launched side by side it would have been behind almost the entire time, and you are kidding yourself if you think otherwise

both sony and nintendo cant compete with xboxs strength? haha right were done here

If anyone thinks MS has not been a huge driving force in gaming..... well, I don't know what to say.

We can see them right now pushing consoles forward with Scorpio, just as Sony did with the PS4, then the Pro. They've pushed controllers forward since the very beginning of their console days. Recently, they took that even a step further, with the Elite controller (I was hoping to see Sony make a DS4 Elite-type thing. I'm losing faith that they will though).

They've published many iconic games, and brought us many iconic series'. Halo is the most obvious one, but Gears has also become huge.

They've been out in front with console online service since day one, and have pushed Sony, and now (finally!) Nintendo to improve their online offerings. This is probably the most obvious space where MS has been the one to push the industry forward.

I've owned almost every major console since Atari 2600. I think every single one of them moved gaming forward in some way. I do most of my gaming right now on my PS4 Pro (submitted as evidence of my non-fanboyness). I'm glad to see that Sony's power advantage has pushed MS to take it up yet another level. I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Ah yes Halo, the game that was shown off for Mac before Microsoft splashed the cash and bought the studio.

Credit for Halo goes to Bungie, not Microsoft.

Gears? the Epic games tech demo? k, credit goes largely to epic games.

But let's not forget, Microsoft should also get credit for all the great studios they bought out and then ruined, Rare being a fine example.

Microsoft is given far too much credit.

And yes, in the console gaming sphere, MS have always lost. Name a single Microsoft console that has been the top selling platform? (Hell, name a single Microsoft console that didn't end a generation with the lowest worldwide sales).

According to VGC the Xbox 360 still has

  • the highest software sales of all 7th gen home + handheld consoles
  • the highest software tie ratio of all home + handheld consoles
  • the biggest software library of all home consoles
  • the biggest subscription revenue of all legacy home + handheld consoles ;)

Yeah, what a loser!

but did it an xbox console ever finish a generation anything but last place in sales, which is exactly what i said?

No. no it did not. and two times out of three it lost by a hefty margin.

as for that biggest library of all home consoles claim, perhaps try using a more reliable list.

Xbox 360:

There are currently 1,205 games on this list

Exclusive = 107
Console exclusive = 80
Multiplatform = 990
Xbox One compatible = 129

PS3:

There are currently 1433 games on this list. Below is an exclusivity breakdown as of August 2016:

Exclusive = 317
Console exclusive = 124
Multiplatform = 989

So yeah.. you'll excuse me if im unimpressed :)

I think people aren't giving Microsoft enough credit.

Direct X has helped guide graphics as we know it today. It worked with all the graphics chip companies (Even mobile!) to build the API and set standards which has flowed and guided various graphics architectures that has ended up in pretty much every device we use today from Console to Mobile to High-end PC.
Game engines are also built directly for those technologies as well.

In terms of graphics technology it could be argued that no other company has been as influential overall... And thus it's partly thanks to Microsoft that Sony and Nintendo has the graphics technology that it has in their respective consoles today.

Yeah, but you're explaining graphics to primarily console gamers. Nintendo and Sony are delivering the bulk of the console identifiable exclusives and will continue to do so. As much as console gamers boast about graphics is truthfully a elementary argument vs what Microsoft might do for PC. Microsoft has set standards with online for consoles, but has done very little for consoles in terms of paving the way with game development. As much as what you say makes sense it will always be simply about games to console gamers. They will argue among themselves about graphics but it wont really hold any water when the real platform to talk about that on is PC.

Well MS and Nintendo didnt left home consoles.

True triforce is and always will be:

PC: high end graphics
PlayStation: Home-console specific gaming
Nintendo: Gaming on the go

And now Microsoft are commited to releasing all future games on both pc and xbox, the purpose in xbox even existing has become redundant and reduced the band to a poor mans pc.

You could say the same about Sony most of their great exclusive games where either bought, from third parties or sold. FFVII, Bloodborne, Ratchet and Clank, Crash, Spyro, Metal Gear Solid. Sure eventually they start releasing big games on their own like God of War and Uncharted. But Sony plays this game longer than MS, they also brought us the first fable.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
