Forums - Microsoft - Phil Spencer: Scorpio will be the very best console version of games this year..

And everyone was surprised.

Now if they hit a $399 price-point, that would be surprising, and make Scorpio an incredible value purchase.

For who? I agree, that a price point of 399$ is the sweetspot for launch. But why not buy the Ps4 pro then. We should assume that the PS4 pro will drop in price by holidays, and the PS ecosystem of games is just far richer and diversified than one the Xbox platform.

For xbox fans and anyone willing to spend more for more power. It's not for me, but that doesn't mean it's not a great device for that price.

He's kind of right. When Sony times the PS5 launch it should be safe for 4k gaming to drop. Microsoft jumped the gun on 4k gaming big time. They are just doing this to one up Sony. Sony didnt make the PS4 4k capable because they didnt believe the market was ready nor that the hardware was cost effective at this time. People are streaming more, but sony only screwed up by buying gaikai for BC streaming. You're hyping up a console thats only going to be purchased by a minority of people while company its not even headlining for is losing badly. When sony drops more games its kind of over. Xbox gamers did the same thing during the OG Xbox and Microsoft had to cut the gen short because they were decimated.

Erm no and far beyond being right. If you havnt notice 4k has already hit off. The Scorpio would have been planned years ago not as a last minute decision. MS had another console that was due last year which is more like the PS4 Pro which they scrapped due to it being a silly idea going half way with specs. MS is a PC company which houses heaps of 4k content. They know whats going on.

As for thinking this is to only 1 up Sony.. thats the problem with this industry and its fans. ALL companies are trying to 1 up each other, not just MS. These consoles take years of planning and reserach. There not just  (lets quickly rush a system to be more powerful).

MS most likely dont care what Sony do. There aiming for the 4k market something the PS4 Pro failed to do.

"By 2017, 4K UHD TV sales will hit 20 million a year in the U.S. That number will grow to 23 million in 2018, and 26 million by 2019, Shapiro said. The 2016 growth rate is 105 percent above the units sold for 2015."

Since Sony saved Blu Ray from HD DVD and Microsofts failed attempt to use HD DVD, I believe they came to the conclusion that not enough 4k (or 4k blu ray drives) tvs had been sold to justify going global with a 4k console even though the blu ray association has been selling 4k blu ray players to compliment 4k tvs. Sony is known for being the primary platform for the adoption of new formats. The PS5 will launch to the broadest audience possible most likely within the next two to three years and use their market power just like the PSOne and PS2 to spread their association. Much like the PS2...Sony will market the PS5 as an affordable hub for the ultimate 4k entertainment for all. Much like the PS2....the PS5's world appeal and price drops in 4k tv prices will justify many people to make the jump to full 4k. Its growing quickly, but not quick enough.

The only screw up Sony made was buying Gaikai and thinking that BC through streaming was going to be the next big trend. Streaming is big but gaming through streaming is not as reliable as they think just yet.

It is only to one up Sony. Microsoft cannot reasonably say they put out a 4k console for a small audience to reach the mass market. LOL

Scorpio will sell better than Pro, but less than PS4,Switch,X1 etc
The multiplats will be better and that is it.

Its not always about releasing hardware at its peak stages of tech. Its sometimes getting ahead of the curb. PS3 released with Blu-Ray when Blu-Ray wasnt even a thing.  PS3 manage to continue to sell for 10 years using Blu-Ray as its driving force. Something the Scorpio will try to achieve because in acouple years time it won't be expensive expecially agaisnt a newer PS5.

Sony saved Blu-Ray? Haha dude HD-DvD and Blu-Ray is a completely different market to gaming. Games today is becoming more digital. You dont need a disc to run formats anymore. 1 big reason Sony didnt include a 4k player in the Pro was to lower the price (Sony 4k Players wouldnt be cheap and they wont source a cheaper alternative brand) where as MS could easily fit a cheap 4k player from any brand since they dont make 4k players just like the XB1S.

Sonys PS4 Pro failed to attract the 4k market mainly because customers arent going to buy into a fake 4k (checkerboarding) if people want to upgrade they will buy the real thing. Scorpio is in a different boat to Pro. Its a True 4k machine marketed towards the premium customers and enthusius. Its not meant to outsell a PS4 or XB1S. Those that spend thousands on there entertainment centers will see the Scorpio as a welcome edition not the Pro.

If you say you might aswell wait for PS5 than you might aswell wait again for the XB2 since thats most likely going to come out after PS5 and be more powerful again.

Iv reas majority of your threads. You clearly dont like the Scorpio. Not sure what you have agasint it. Its a machine meant to benefit console only gamers. I am a 4k PC gamer and im glad a company is out there pushing the 4k market. Its awesome thing not a negative.

Yea, that's why the Scorpio isn't changing much.  If you look at sales, interest in the XBO at $249 has started to drop, even in the US.  Having a $400-$500 version with prettier graphics isn't going to help much.  Especially since it'll only appeal to people in a handful of regions to begin with.

And while it's not the biggest reason to switch/stay, I think Sony coming up with a better trophy system is going to help.  I mean the gamerscore just seems outdated, like keeping score in Atari games.  It sure wasn't enough to keep people with Xbox, like some thought it might.  Having it work more like leveling up in a RPG just seems more interesting to me.  Again, I don't think it'll be a big reason, but I think it'll part of the reason people stay with PS this and next gen.

Well thats unfortunate you cant own multiple consoles.

I didnt know gamers are limited to just one platform because of *waiting for your excuses*

It's always fun to watch you flip flop from "I'm a PC gamer, I don't care" to "Ha, point for Xbox!"

Something the Scorpio will try to achieve because in acouple years time it won't be expensive expecially agaisnt a newer PS5. Oh, so you can see the future? How do you know Scorpio won't just be a massive commercial failure? Or that the PS5 will even happen? Or that Microsoft won't just give up on console gaming?

Sony saved Blu-Ray? Haha dude HD-DvD and Blu-Ray is a completely different market to gaming. Games today is becoming more digital. You dont need a disc to run formats anymore. 1 big reason Sony didnt include a 4k player in the Pro was to lower the price (Sony 4k Players wouldnt be cheap and they wont source a cheaper alternative brand) where as MS could easily fit a cheap 4k player from any brand since they dont make 4k players just like the XB1S. Yeah, Sony did save Blu-ray. Is that really even a debatable topic? And if you knew anything about margins and the cost of Sony Blu-ray players, you would be talking more about how Sony is actually more capable of fitting a cheaper 4K Blu-ray Drive in their platform than Microsoft is.

Are you kidding me? Over half of the people who come into my store looking for 4K TV's have or are grabbing a PS4 Pro or Xbox One S. And you act like every single title relies on the checkerboard when there's an entire thread on this forum detailing titles that run Native 4K. Those who spend thousands on entertainment are looking for fixes now, not later when a mid-gen update to the distant second of Gen 8 comes out to play games in 4K that they could be playing right now in 4K on their PCs. The only people who will be buying a Scorpio are die-hard MS fans; everyone else has already purchased a PS4 Pro for price or upgraded their PC for performance.

If you say you might aswell wait for PS5 than you might aswell wait again for the XB2 since thats most likely going to come out after PS5 and be more powerful again. After being beaten by Sony three generations in a row, I would be surprised in MS stopped making Xboxes.

I mean, I wouldn't believe you anyway. I've already caught you in lies before, so why take anything you say as anything but a load of shit? Or you still expect me to believe you bought a $2200 USD gaming laptop at $1000AUS?

And that's the pot calling the kettle black. I look forward to your inevitable flip-flop back to PC whenever the PS5 specs are dropped and you need ammo to use against it when your brand of choice goes back into second place.

Oh please haha. You honestly expect me to care what you think? Don't believe me, you wouldnt even believe me if i sent you photos. Next you will ask for my drivers license next to my hardware haha. You will just keep making more excuses. (If you want me to prove my specs add me on Steam and ill link you my set-up. Iv already made a thread about my PC / TV set-up aswell. Start paying attention)

The fact you think i care for console sales makes me laugh. I buy what i want not what others like. You should know me by now. Concepts are hard to grasp on these forums.

I am not going to turn this thread in a War. Add me on Steam or see my PC Thread if you want details.

Also in case you forgot, your right, i like Xbox, however i like PCs more.

Actually, the real difference here is that there is no difference with you.  I once lurked this site and recalled that your past posts were always pro-Xbox and anti-PlayStation.  And later you jumped ship to PC (which that in itself is fine btw) because at the time the PS3 was making a comback, and the that's where the games were at.  And nothing wrong with favoring the Xbox and/or the PC.  But you're always bagging on the PlayStation which is just as bad and no better than those that bag on the Xbox.  So in principle, you're no better than the brand loyalist.  You're not fooling anyone.
