This. It's a console that has a mobile feature until that becomes reality.

If you blow hard enough, it should work.
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

That is debatable. If their userbase goes down by 10m but their software sale goes up 50% (random number), they still get more profits. And with their two big markets fused, they are going to sell way more games than with two different consoles. |
Also, Nintendo only had to pay R&D costs for one new console, not two. So the cost of entry for Switch is much lower than the cost of entry for New Console + New Handheld.
I think Nintendo already pretty much has the blue print for the future anyway.
Pillar 1: Premium/High End Switch Model ($299.99)
Pillar 2: Low-Cost Model (Currently 2DS/3DS). This will become the basic Switch in a couple of years. $149.99-$199.99.
Pillar 3: iOS/Android games.

It might be a surprise to you, but to those of us listening, and not just hearing what we want to hear, that's a different story. |
You writing nonsense, it would be surprise for everyone who payed attention what Nintendo was doing and what they were saying (talk about unified platform, fact they admit they can't any more support effectively two different platforms, fact they merge their handheld and home console hardware division, and handheld and home console software divisions..). Its almost certain we will have cheaper and smaller Switch Mini/Pocket just for handheld play in around 1.5-2 years when 3DS completely dies.

See that's the thing. Everything you're saying is that Nintendo is streamlining its processes, but all of those things you mention don't necessarily point to one console going forward. A new handheld can be based off of the switch's hardware, which wouldn't "effectively be two different platforms". Making two very similar but seperate platforms, that allows for very simple porting between both platforms would accomplish all of Nintendo's objectives in doing all of this streamlining without destroying what has been a lucrative revenue stream.
You're assuming that all of this means that Nintendo is going with one console from this point forward, but that's not necesarily the case.
Were people not allowed to buy both a 3ds and a wiiu?
Something...Something...Games...Something
It would be bad for the Nintendo brand overall, since they are focusing everything on the Switch. However, I think 40M+ could be considered a success. It'll still be disappointing, but it would be good enough for Nintendo to continue making HW.

No, its not point about one console, but about one platform, we could have Switch Mini/Pocket, Switch just for home console play, Switch Pro, Switch 2, Switch VR/AR addon.. Switch like hybrid console gave Nintendo lotsa opportunities for other iterations of hardware or addons, so there is no any reason to make separate platform with separate games and again divide their resources on two platforms.
I assume we will see Switch Mini/Pocket just for handheld play with price point of around $150-200 at end of 2018. or early 2019. and it will effectively replace curent 3DS price point on market.

You're assuming they meant one platform. The only thing they've really said before the Swtich was announced was that the next home console and handheld consoles "may have an integrated platform", and that future devices will have "a fair degree of technical integration". No where does this distincly mean that Nintendo intends on supporting one platform going forward, just that these platforms will share very similar technology. In fact, Iwata goes so far to demonstrate he does not mean one single platform in this quote
""If the transition of software from platform to platform can be made simpler, this will help solve the problem of game shortages in the launch periods of new platforms,""
I mean, I don't know about you, but that seem to me that the prime objective of the streamlining process was to make it far easier to support two platforms and port games between those platforms than to just support one platform in different form factors.
But that's just me though.
