Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Hardware Sales 2015 vs 2016 vs 2017: New Years numbers posted. 2017 ends at 20.2 million

Would you be interested in a 2017 vs. 2018 comparison?

Yes 475 69.24%

No 81 11.81%

Total:556

Christmas numbers have been added and 2017 passes 19 million.

The next update, the final week of 2017, should match the 20.2 million figure that Sony put out.

I've also included a new poll.

If there is enough interest, I would be willing to do another comparison thread between 2017 and 2018.

Though, I would like to let some time pass before I do it, preferably when we get to March. And that's assuming somebody else doesn't already do one. :P

Please add in 2018 results too if possible, or even make a new thread with a new 2016/2017/2018 table compairing them to one another.

31st Dec 2016 :

PS4 554,161 (-54%) 53,490,988

So...adjustements?

Whenever I do start doing the 2018 comparison, I don't really see the need to include 2016 unless this year is lagging way behind 2017.
Enough to make me think, "This is probably closer to '16 than '17."
The chances of that happening are unlikely though. If it remains neck and neck, slightly above, or even slightly below 2017, I'll keep the comparison between those 2 years.

The adjustments for 2016 go much further back than that, but yes. They are being made as they speak.

So, I did some editing after going back throughout the last 3 years and made some changes.

I noticed that 2016 was always ahead of 2015 right from the beginning... and 2017 was always ahead of 2016 right from the beginning.
Never at any point did either year drop before their respective predecessor. Not even 2016 from 2015, where they were only separated by less than 500k.

I also noticed that despite 2017 being its peak year by a wide margin, the PS4 had the "weakest" December out of the 3 years.

This could be a consequence of the games release schedule slipping out of November/December to the first quarter, with the 3rd party yearly offering still releasing in september/october. If the trends continues over Q1, it might mean the PS4 sales are loosing momentum though.
