Forums - Nintendo - Wii U port begging (on Switch)

I agree on both sides. But, I still side with the stop doing ports. All 3 companies look lazy, the more they do it. As well as people constantly wanting to replay the same thing over and over again. RE1 being the best example. The hell is the point of new consoles. When ports of last generation games, out number new stuff.

I'm not mad at anything. If you wanted to play these games, you should've bought a Wii U. When you're trying to get its 10-20 exclusives ported to a new machine, sounds like your the one who's mad. I'd rather get sequels to mario maker, smash, yoshi, donkey kong, etc. I'm not saying ports are bad, I'm just saying I don't want the systems first year to be full of them. The only two ports id possibly buy are a smash and hyrule Warriors one (if they included all the content from the 3ds versions).

Oh and I certainly did not have buyers remorse like a certain commenter said, I bought almost every Nintendo game released for the console along with a good bit of third party games (I prob have around 30-40 retail titles for it) and I haven't finished half of those. So I'm still enjoying my Wii U

If you want to play the games, buy the console, I'm sure Wii U's are gonna be pretty cheap soon.

Needs to stop. Sorry you didn't get to play those games, but you should have gotten a Wii U to play them, I did, and I really don't want to waste Switch space/development time with games I already played within the last 2-3 years. I want to play new original titles/sequels.

The people "wasting their time" on ports (that, btw, sell better or still amazingly as they did on Wii U) aren't even Nintendo devs, if I recall they are outsourcing to random, smaller, 3rd party teams.

I'm fine with some games going to switch. But for the ones that uses the gamepad, I believe they need some changes to ensure it just works normal on Switch without the gamepad touchscreen/map or something that WiiU has.

I was just thinking I'd love to play Super Mario 3D World and Smash Bros on the Switch in handheld mode lol

It's probably in your best interests to just get used to it and not stress over it, as I imagine we still have a few coming.

Pretty much. I kinda feel the same as OP, but looking at MK8D, it just makes too much sense for Nintendo to keep releasing older games...

I also hate that there is so much port begging. Not just for WiiU titles, but for late ports of PS4 titles. I hope companies are not thinking that porting games late (like Skyrim) is going to be a great, long-term idea. I really hope all developers take the 3DS approach to this console. It is obviously very developer friendly, cheap to develop on (the dev kit cost like 450 USD???), and open for influence since this is the primitive stage of the console's life cycle.

I guess everyone has a port they would like to see on the console... I am one of the few people around that thinks FPS titles and PS4/One/PC ports are completely unnecessary and not worth the time. I really want exclusive, new content that separates Switch from PS4 and Xbox One as much as possible. There will probably end up being a balance to ports versus new content, but that balance will probably still rub me the wrong way in the end.

Not sure these ports take very much time to get out. If they do take up a lot of time and resources to produce to the point of inhibiting new development then I agree, it's something that should stop or be done cautiously. If they don't take up much time or resources then I don't see why it's so bad.

I have no problem with ports, as long as they don't make tons of them. If it makes sense, why not? I wouldn't mind definitive editions of Hyrule Warriors or Smash for example, because I didn't play the former and I missed all of the DLC for the latter. Games like Yoshi's Wooly World or Super Mario Maker though don't make sense, because they've already been ported to the 3DS and it would be pretty redundant to port the same games twice instead of making sequels.

The problem with the Smash example is that if they make a remaster, when would it be fitting to make a new title and not have player burnout? I felt this risk with Mario Kart 8 Delux. When will I feel like I need a new Mario Kart? Maybe at the end of the generation... the worst time to release a Mario Kart title. I would rather a new Smash and a new Mario Kart than remakes that risk me burning out on the series before the new title arrives. Especially when games like Mario Strikers exists and had no new title during the last generation. Getting games like that out and new versions of Mario Kart and Smash would be much better than remakes of Mario Kart and Smash. I know what Nintendo did with Mario Kart was smart from a business standpoint, but I hope future portbegging and ports slow down significantly.

Smash was also ported to 3DS which makes the second half of your argument a moot point.

Don't fault people for making a decision to not buy some product they deemed not worth their time, as clearly the vast majority agreed with that population. And yes, I'd like to see new developments on the Switch as well, but who's to say that these ports take up so much time and effort that these new things won't happen? Nobody.

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.
