Forums - Nintendo - Will the new 2DS be another failure from Nintendo?

Isn't the new 2DS just a cheaper 3DS with no drawbacks whatsoever? Sounds like a success to me.

It's like selling a $50 cheaper PS4 without a 4k Bluray drive. Would sell like hotcakes.

Looks great to me

I loved the original 2DS! It was very cheap and was a lot more comfortable than the 3DS.

No 4k bluray drive on either standard ps4 or ps4 pro so not sure how they can shave off $50 by removing it.

Reggie already said that the 2DS, as is, makes up about 11% of sales. So, when all is said and done, that's less than 8M and could end little more than 7M. Not that great. Of course, its just another option. So, I think OG 2DS has a point of existing, but the new one? No. If I was Nintendo, I would have reworked those factories to make NES Classcs. Limited resources my ass.

It'll do fine, and keep the 3DS family on the market and relevant for a little while longer.

It looks quite good too, but there's one thing I don't really get; why is it a clamshell design? Wasn't the whole point of the regular 2DS's slate-design that the little children couldn't break the hinges like they were apparently doing with DS's and 3DS's? So what now, have Nintendo developed some kind of unbreakable hinge for the N2DS?

I suspect it's clamshell to broaden its appeal more.  The N3DS based hardware was going to raise the price significantly higher than the standard 2DS, putting it out of reach of most younger people who were the target of the standard 2DS (barring their parents buying the N2DSXL for them).  And the slate design of the standard 2DS was not at all aesthetically pleasing and was a negative that pushed away older cosnumers.  They probably want the N2DSXL to have a more diverse reach.

This new 2DS is what the original 2DS should have been. I don't know why Nintendo did it, either they thought it had to be as cheap as possible or maybe they were trying not to sabotage 3DS, but for $50 less, I expect this model will virtually kill off the 3DS XL.

Sales probably won't be amazing but it will do it's job of extending the "3"DS into 2018, making some extra money and also providing a low-cost Nintendo product for those who don't want to shell out for Switch.

I don't see how in any way the New 2DS XL will be failure, have any the other iterations of the 3DS failed? No. So why would what is arguably the best iteration of the 3DS so far fail?

The N2DS XL is going to be the only "3DS" I am ever going to own.

A warrior keeps death on the mind from the moment of their first breath to the moment of their last.

The 3DS is selling well, so no, it won't be a failure

Rather, I would say it would give 3DS sales a boost :/
