| S.Peelman said: It'll do fine, and keep the 3DS family on the market and relevant for a little while longer. It looks quite good too, but there's one thing I don't really get; why is it a clamshell design? Wasn't the whole point of the regular 2DS's slate-design that the little children couldn't break the hinges like they were apparently doing with DS's and 3DS's? So what now, have Nintendo developed some kind of unbreakable hinge for the N2DS? |
I suspect it's clamshell to broaden its appeal more. The N3DS based hardware was going to raise the price significantly higher than the standard 2DS, putting it out of reach of most younger people who were the target of the standard 2DS (barring their parents buying the N2DSXL for them). And the slate design of the standard 2DS was not at all aesthetically pleasing and was a negative that pushed away older cosnumers. They probably want the N2DSXL to have a more diverse reach.
