Reggie already said that the 2DS, as is, makes up about 11% of sales. So, when all is said and done, that's less than 8M and could end little more than 7M. Not that great. Of course, its just another option. So, I think OG 2DS has a point of existing, but the new one? No. If I was Nintendo, I would have reworked those factories to make NES Classcs. Limited resources my ass.
