That's the funny thing about paying to play online. Last gen many Sony and Nintendo fans complained about MS and MS fans were like "that money they generate from it though". This gen, some of the same Sony fans are like "awesome, so much money Sony makes now" even if it comes from what they complained about last gen and when Nintendo will make a lot of money from it in some years you will see some Nintendo fans who will love the profit  NIntendo generates even if it comes from what they didn't like before

Edit: Just to clarify, that's not meant to be against OP, I have no idea what he said about paying for online last gen. Just in general what you can see in some threads. 

Last gen you didnt get free games or bigger discounts. Subscriptions are a lot better value then they were 8 years ago.

In my OP I presented "financial data" not personal feelings. I hope you do the same and talk from financial point of view. Thanks.

Sure, and I still know that many would have done the exact same thing last gen even with games and I also know many wouldn't complain about it anymore even if the consoles now would still get no games every month. 

That's just like it is in gaming forums, it's bad as long as the "own" company doesn't do it. 

I hope you realise that I already said that it's not about you but in general what you can read in the threads from different users. 

It's not as if I would know anything about what you said some years ago...

But to add something to the thread. Yes, online services can be crazy money maker if you do it right. In the case of console manufacturers it is pretty easy to get people to pay for it with forced payments to play online. 

Thread title was poorly made and I admit it. But I am talking about gaming revenue and importance of online services. This does not cover only games but also movies, TV shows like hulu or Netflix and other services. Sony didn't promoted PS4 as media box yet it covers games and media items.

You're right, it would be better if paid online didn't exist.
