Forums - Nintendo - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Nintendo Switch / Wii U Graphical Comparison

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 1080p 60Fps

Mario Kart 8: 720p 60/59Fps

Overall not too much of a difference other than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe looks clearer and sharper, as well as running with a smoother feel due to lacking the duplicate frame that occurs in the original. But hey should be good for those who find 720p unbearable to even look at in games.

Here's what I think best shows off the higher resolution upgrade in the comparison (hint the track barriers):

So, how much more powerful is the Switch than the WiiU?

I mean, in simple terms that a moron like me could understand: 2x more powerful? 3X more powerful? 30% more powrful?

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

The art style had it looking beautiful on the Wii U imo, one of the only games I was really impressed by graphically on that console.

Really, it's the battle system that really should have been present from day 1 that has me most excited; this should easily be the best Mario Kart experience yet had now that they've righted that wrong. Super excited :)

Honestly I never found the "duplicate frame" thing noticeable even after being told it was there, nor can anyone else I've played with see it. For that matter, I never saw a single person even mention it until after Digital Foundry's analysis.

The Shy Guys and Toads have different colors. Nice.

It'll feel like a whole new game now!

The game isn't even in 4k. Sad! Immigrants are ruining our beloved Microsoft. Make Xbox great again!

I'll have some of whatever you're having. Must be good stuff!

Good.

An oversimplification, but probably what you're looking for: Linearly it's around twice as powerful as a WiiU when docked, but its hardware is also more modern. It has a few extra tools available to it, and its power is more efficient. In real-world performance it'll probably translate to an average of a 2x to 3x power jump when docked, and for portable it should be comparable to a WiiU game (with extra polish).

It's a good thing it's not 2014 or we'd currently have a dozen threads lamenting how 'lazy' a port this is :p

Nice to see the micro-stutter is gone. I personally never noticed it, but I've got a friend who it used to niggle at. They outright won't touch Bloodborne or FF15 because of their (much worse) frame-pacing issues.
