It is definitely the biggest leap, well apart from GBA - DS maybe. It's impressively powerful as a portable device.

To each his own but 800 × 240 px for 3DS, and 1280  × 720 for Nintendo Switch is a much bigger leap than; 256 × 192 px for the Nintendo DS, and 240 × 160 px for the Game Boy Advance.

Resolution isn't everything when it comes to the biggest graphical leap. DS was the first handheld to do 3d. It's essentially the same as Snes to N64.

It's a little sad that there needs to be a thread to emphasise the Switch is more powerful than the WiiU. Congratulations.

This thread about differences of Wii U ports on Switch.

It's sad that people constantly bash the Switch for being weaker than the PS4 when it is less than 1/10 of the size of any PS4 model.

The bashing comes from people that couldn't care less about the size. Because they want a home console and Nintendo doesn't offer one other than the Switch.

Well to be honest, I was intially very surprised and shocked when the Switch concept was announced that a handheld could be so powerful, the jump from 3DS to Switch is by far the biggest graphical leap in Nintendo hanhelds.

Switch even in portable mode is more powerful than Wii U, comparison with 3DS is ridiculous, definitely biggest leap even if we talk only about handheld side of Switch.

Tagging - nice idea Miyamotoo

The Nintendo Switch is the first the HD deicated gaming handheld (That is an actual platform with exclusive libabary, it's OS, it's own digital store, physical controls, i.e. not some ios or android smartphone or tablet that is far from the class of being a dedicated gaming handheld) for sure expeceted that Sony would be the first, I thought Nintendo's next handheld would be between Gamecube and Wii.

Surely you mean Wii U? 3DS is already almost as powerful as the Gamecube, so going from that to between GC and Wii would be a tiny step.

Oh nice! Not only that, but now you can also play the games in handheld mode! Insane!

I am hoping for Minecraft that they include the touch screen functionality (since its coming in may...... I really doubt it by now.....)

Keep in mind with Switch ports of games... you only have access to the touchsceen in 1 of the 3 modes of play, sure you can include functionality of it for undocked mode, but good luck using that touchscreen inside the dock or while the switch is in table top :D

I know for a fact I'm going to be triple dipping in Minecraft though, unless there is some massive flaw with the port that game is getting got day 1 for me.

cool thread btw, nice to see the games flowing over from the failed console, means Nintendo should hopefully be able to salvage a lot of the wasted effort of the last few years and move them forward to the Switch, will be great to have a portable console which features Twilight Princess HD, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Windwaker, Pikmin 3... Damn just thinking about it is giving me an urge to dock right now.

Honestly found the DS a bigger leap since we finally got Mario in 3D in your pocket. in 1999 I had a dream playing portable system playing Mario 64 on the go. 2004 I got it. It blew me away quite honestly. I have a Vita and 3DS and seen some really good looking games on both. RE Rev held it's own on consoles. Wii U being a half step inbetween with the Gamepad also kinbda got used to visuals near Switch like on a 6 inch screen.

Switch is definitely more powerful than the Wii U, which is nice, since it's a lot smaller than the Wii U :p

Though not on par with the PS4, so is a bit unfortunate

We start getting some Wii U ports on Switch, I will put here difference in resolution for those games. I will try updating this thread.

-Zelda BotW Wii U 720p > Zelda BotW Switch 900p (with much better frame rate)

- Mario Kart 8 Wii U 720p > Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Switch 1080p

-Fast Racing Neo Wii U 720p > Fast RMX Switch 1080p (with better visuals)

-Lego City Undercover Wii U 720p > Lego City Undercover Switch 1080p (with better visuals)

Could you do it a little more comprehensively though?
Because none of those games are running at above 720P whilst in handheld mode.

Possibly use a proper table?
