Forums - Nintendo - When Nintendo Strikes The 3DS Down, The Switch Will Become More Powerful Than Ever

I get supporting 3DS because it's still selling, and games like Pokemon do well. But really, they need to pull the plug on it after 2017. For the Switch to fully realize it's potential, and actually be the system it could be, they NEED to put their full developmental and advertising muscle behind it. They need it to get all the kinds of games a Wii U AND a 3DS would traditionally get, and then some. Switch having games like Fire Emblem, and Animal Crossing, and Monster Hunter, and Pokemon, Mario & Luigi, etc., would really go a long way. Not to mention that, for example, people who didn't have 3DS had to miss out on cool exclusives it got, even though they had a Wii U. With Switch, going forward, if they TRULY start treating it like a "Unified Platform", doubling as both a home and portable system, then that shouldn't be an issue for anyone going forward. You own a Switch, you should own the ONE system that gets all of Nintendo's exclusives, period.

And perhaps the next iteration of Smash Bros. won't be needlessly and pointlessly watered down by the development of two coinciding versions of the game (when there only should have been one, superior version of it, on Wii U).

The one thing I've always liked about the IDEA of the "hybrid console", ever since that was first rumored way back in 2014/15, is the fact that while I like and have owned portable systems, they rarely get anywhere near as much playtime out of me as home consoles, because I rarely feel like playing games on a tiny screen, or on the go. But to have the OPTION to take games I was playing at home, on the go, or "off-tv", that is a great feature.

A lot of 3DS games were shown during yesterday's direct and I kept saying "why cant that be on Switch". Need to pry Japanese developers off the 3DS soonish.

To be honest though Switch looks like it's doing great as is.

What Switch needs is the big tier games like Zelda: BotW, the DQXIs (and this being on 3DS first is a bit of a problem), etc. etc.

But these other 3DS games? Likely wouldn't do much of anything for the Switch. If anything maybe this is a good compromise that lets Nintendo market/sell the Switch to a more upmarket group (read: older, actual disposal income group) while the 3DS can focus on broke/cheap kids.

Give 'em all the Kirby and Mario Sports games they want, lol, I don't care, especially if they're farmed out to external devs.

Let the 3DS be the kiddie portable, there's thousands of back catalog DS and 3DS games they could put through the eShop too so you don't even need much new software. It's good enough for kids.

I wouldn't call it shitty. I've taken it on plane trips, to work, etc. ~3hrs is actually pretty good considering I can charge it between sessions easily. Not to say 6, 12 or 20 hours wouldnt' be better of course.

Normalizing shitty battery life is not good as a handheld gamer primarily, it's been hard accepting 6hrs I get from the 3DS/Vita. It sucks, really bad. I mean what the hell happened to the 20+hrs you got off a GBA? Or hell I was fine with the 12+ you got from a DS Lite. But Sony/Nintendo have insisted on shortening the battery life in half the past few handhelds and its stupid. I mean, maybe as a casual thing 3hrs might be fine. But if youre someone who travels across the country all the time, this just feels like pretending the Gamepad is a handheld. Barely make it out the door (metaphorically) before it dies! No no no, maybe for a console gamer this is "pretty good", but for a handheld gamer this better not be normalized because it really is shitty. Im not going to defend Nintendo with the Switch until they themselves fix the issue. And changing the battery is not fixing it, I want them to make a model that will last at the very least... 6hrs, with a game like BotW.

Would you be ok with buying a Switch that is about 50% thicker, 50% heavier and costs $350?

I'd rather plug it in or if I really need the juice due to no plug nearby then spend $20~$50 on a portable power bank.

I shouldnt have to buy a battery to make my portable, well, portable

If you want to play longer than 3 hours per sitting, sure ...?

To be honest it's not terribly common to play video games 3 hours+ away from home unless you are on an airplane in which case you generally have a USB outlet.

Like I said before, I travel across the country regularly. Be it plane or car. Not all cars nor planes offer a way to charge it. It should be longer than 3hrs especially since its not uncommon to be on 35hr car rides or 6hr flights

100% of cars have power outlets for charging.  I'm thinking 70% of planes in the US have either a 110v outlet, or USB port.

I agree with your underlying point though.  They need to improve battery life ASAP.

I don't think so Unless for older cars you mean by those weird things that look like a penis that went through a blender. In which case, I dont often carry that shit around! Newer cars, sure. As for planes. I get the luck of never getting the planes with them except for extremely short flights.

And thank you. You have to agree!

That's a well written article. Good on that guy.

Well, refusal to carry the blended penis charger is a weak excuse.

I dislike the blended penis charger. It takes up space!
