To be honest it's not terribly common to play video games 3 hours+ away from home unless you are on an airplane in which case you generally have a USB outlet. 

Like I said before, I travel across the country regularly. Be it plane or car. Not all cars nor planes offer a way to charge it. It should be longer than 3hrs especially since its not uncommon to be on 35hr car rides or 6hr flights

100% of cars have power outlets for charging.  I'm thinking 70% of planes in the US have either a 110v outlet, or USB port.  

 

I agree with your underlying point though.  They need to improve battery life ASAP.
