Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Can ARMS Sell Over/Close to 3mil+ Lifetime Worldwide?

Nintendo is in every Genre I can think of excluding Movie/Game (Heavy Rain) and One v One fighter so maybe this is something they need? I don't count Smash as legit One V One. It's a party game.

Yep. But I'd like some more 3D action-adventure games like Zelda. ^^ Hopefully the new DK is a 3D one like DK64.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

no.

very very unlikely.

Splatoon was a surprise success not because of the TYPE of game it was, but rather because it was a new very cartoony IP. Its a shooter, and shooters tend to kill it with casual audiences. Splatoon as a new IP is not comparable with ARMS because it stems from a much larger and more followed genre

the fighting genre however basically outside of Mortal Kombat and Super Smash Bros does not really usually sell THAT high. The odds of a new fighting IP on a Nintendo console getting to 3 million? like zero. In fact its probably a 50/50 chance whether it even becomes a hit. But frankly 'hit' level for Arms would probably be like 2 million in sales.

Its a glorified Punchout game with extendable arms and some customization. There's just no way it sells THAT well, regardless of how good it is.  a fairly limited fighter that's brad new is not going to do that well. If it were a Team Fortress clone or something then maybe, but I honestly can't think of a cartoony fighting game that's broken out. Or even a regular fighting game. For Honor is literally the only thing that hits my brain in the last few years and that's primarily due to the PC community

It's also a 3D arena fighter, akin to that of Power Stone as some fans would say. And the characters have a feel of that of the character of Overwatch, though not saying that its a 3D arena fighter Overwatch..

Yeah my first impressions of it were very negative also, and I think a big part of that is because it was unveiled alonside 1-2 Switch, so at the time it seemed like Nintendo was desperately trying to relive the Wii Sports/Wii Party days and that ARMS would be shallow gimmicky trash like 1-2 Switch. Its reveal trailer was pretty awful too.

Its Treehouse showing and the recent direct however shows that is has far more depth and polish than its reveal suggested, and while I wouldn't say I'm sold on it as fighting games just aren't my thing, I will say that it looks like a good game and I expect it to clear the million mark comfortably.

Heh, we're of the same mind on this, even down to fighting games not being our favorite style of gameplay. For me I'm turned off by them due to how much dedication it takes just to play the game. Gotta learn convoluted combos and when/where/how to use them before you can get even slightly competent at the game. ARMS however follows the good ol Nintendo trend of easy to play, hard to master. You can pick it up and get right into the fun. This level of accessibility, plus the game hopefully being great and Nintendo advertising it well of course, is why I'm confident ARMS can become a multi-million seller.

That's very true about fighting games they are for the most part complex and have the whole combo learning system. But ARMS doesn't seem like there will be too much of a learning curve which I like. Good stuff so far but I can't say I'd buy this over like a new Metroid or something!

Make it 1.2mil and we have a deal. Its because nintendo might round up or down. If its under 1.2mil you win. If you accept pls reply and best of luck!

Accepting.

Is this figure (1.2m) for the first year? Arms is already past that according to Nintendo. xD

Those who estimated under 1 million lifetime are probably eating crow right about now...

I can see this game reaching passed 2 million units at this rate, however, I am uncertain if it can make it to 3 million.

1.2mil in less than 3 weeks......... Probably halfway there in less than 2 months!

Pocky Lover Boy!

It will likely end up around 3 mn LTD which would be absolutely amazing numbers for this game and another feather in the hat for Nintendo.
