On one hand, I want the North Korean government to fall, however on the other hand I don't want them being replaced by other regimes that are going to repress them. I don't have too much confidence in that.

Depends on what happens. Either China will take control over NK after the fall of it, or the US/SK will. If China takes it, I think it'll be a bit better than now. It may still be a dictatorship or perhaps China will absorb it, which I could see since that'd give China more water area, which China wants. If the US takes it, they'll probably hand it over to SK and slowly integrate it back into a single Korea. Those are what I see happening at least. In either scenario, the country is better off.

The thing is, there'd probably be an influx of refugees into China, which would not make them very happy, so they'd probably either close the border or force them back in. There'll also be the problem with South Koreans being hostile towards them, as it'll cost a lot of money to reintegrate them. They also won't be trained for jobs that many South Koreans need, so they could have trouble finding employment and grow extremely restless.

I really hope this is just posturing like it's always been, I hate to see this escalate.

I have good friends in South Korea that lives in Seoul and I don't want them to be in any danger for whatever reason.

There's always the possibility of the US occupying them for a time, supplying them with food and other necessities and propogating them with US values. The only thing I see not happening potentially is the food. But then again, we have given them a lot of supplies in the past. But Russia prob wouldn't like it, so if it happens under a Trump presidency it definitely wont happen.

That's a scary thought to me!

There is no winner, even if the USA would "win" very fast, they would still lose some people (or their allies) and I don't even want to know how many civilians in NK would have to die. USA would bomb out the hell of NK and nothing would be left.

I don't really see that as a win for anyone.

North Korea is hilarious, they actually think they'd stand a chance in a war against the US. They would be bombed into the ground from a safe distance. There only hope would be intervention from China, and I highly doubt China wants a war with the US at this point in time.

I doubt that they actually think that, they mainly do it as a way to have more leverage for foreign aid.

Ready for war is cute, be over within the week.

I mean technically this is true. He is ready for war. The same way I would be ready for War with the US if I went home and grabbed a shotgun. I'd be a slightly easier task to take down though.

War and occupation are very different.

The US won the war against Iraq quickly, the aftermath and occupation still lingers 14 years later. Could level North Korea in a week, but then what? I'd guess occupation would be decades and that's what we don't have resources or desire to take on.

Japans armed force is a joke currently. The only thing bthey have is the backing of the US. China on the other hand is hyper-militarized in comparrison and whatever people think, they are capable on a technological level.

Or did they just made up the J20 and their nuclear arsenal?

They didn't make it up, but hopefully they wouldn't be stupid enough to use it. We were at least smart enough to drop nukes when none else had them, and it still haunted the President until he died.

In all fairness they still knew little about the effects of a nuclear strike when they ordered the bombings. But yeah, I agree, hopefully a political dialogue will resolv this conondrum.
