Forums - Gaming - Snake Pass - Switch & Ps4 analysis (Digital Foundry)

After watching the vid, the Switch and PS4's versions aren't as identical as the commentary suggests.
I mean the analysis is fine but they downplay the difference by using lines like "the Switch version compares favourably" several times. I've seen them kick up more of a fuss highlighting differences that can only be seen by zooming in 300%. It just seemed like their analysis and the commentary to go with it were at odds compared to other comparisons.

There's supposed to be a more in depth video coming soon--which should also include the different versions of PS4 and Xbox One. That video will give you the response you seek. This was just early impressions.

Isn't HZD just scripted? Granted only seen the physics comparison between Botw and HZD videos and I didn't see physics in HZD but scripted stuff.

If you're talking about that bad comparison video featuring the best stuff on Zelda against the worst on Horizon(the rock throwing versus rock throwing on Horizon lol and such) then you're looking at the wrong things. So no Horizon isn't just "scripted" it has a lot of physics simulation(that was NOT shown on that comparison video to make Zelda look way better) as well but they had to sacrifice other simulations for overall image quality. Anyway not the thread to continue talking about it.

I never got that far in Horizon before Zelda released but I know which video you're talking about. That was definitely not the best Zelda's physics had to offer! I'll get back to Horizon after I finish Mass Effect, though. I expect great things from it!

Got my eye on this, glad to hear it runs nicely on Switch as I'm looking to make that my portable indie machine

loading is better on Switch?? Like what?

Good port. Still won't buy it

Solid State vs Mechanical Drive, It should be the faster on the Switch, though if you put a SSD in the PS4 then differences will disappear.

Certainly a contender for worst looking PS4 Game

Not SSD, it uses (fairly) high end NAND Flash storage.   Which is marginally faster than a proper HDD.  An SSD is much faster but also more expensive to get a reliable one.  NAND is likely chosen for cost, size, and power consumption.  And Nintendo probably chose a speed a bit faster than an HDD intentionally.

Disappointing resolution for PS4 ...

Base PS4 should be able to hit well above 900P easily but I guess that's why Unreal Engine 4 sucks so much since they have sub-par async compute implementation compared to Frostbite or other AAA game engines specialized for current gen consoles ...

eh, lazy game. The res/framerate on PS4 is lolworthy.

How do you know is lazy though? Is a small studio without a lot of money making a game for all platforms, the game has nice tech, good artstyle, original gameplay, great physics simulation for the snake and music composed by the genious David Wise, it should be labeled as lazy because is not 1080p 60fps even when it doesn't need too? The artstyle and the antialiasing makes the game already clear enough and 60fps wouldn't be a huge improvement in such a slow paced game.

My brother just got this game on his Switch. Game looks really fun, music is great and the visuals are decent and very colourful.
Those complaining its not 1080p haha why not just enjoy the bloody game. Im getting this on the Switch over the PC version (And my PC can easily run this at 4k/60). Couldnt care less about the pixel count. This game looks like a solid title.
Well done Sumo Studios. Keep up the good work.

My eyes tell me that the game looks good and runs smooth.

I love digital foundry but I feel lt's unfortunate that a lot of people decide how good a game looks or runs based on the DF analysis and not what their eyes tell them. (Not saying that's what you're doing)

I agree. I couldn't imagine what it would be like in the 16-Bit era. Even all time great games like Super Mario World had flickering and slowdown. It didn't detract from the enjoyment at all.  I try to buy the best version possible, being that I own all platforms but sometimes I go back and buy the "inferior" version or get them for free. I rarely, if ever, notice a difference.

I appreciate what they're trying to do but we have a new generation of OCD amateur graphics snobs that can't seem to enjoy a game because a blade of grass was missing in a YouTube video comparison.

Yeah, 'cause who needs context anyway, right...
