Horizon, Zelda or Red Dead Redemption 2.
Its sad because games like Nioh won't get the recognition they deserve.

No Horizon on this? It's still a potential contender for the top 5. We know almost nothing about RDR2 and Mass Effect: Andromeda isn't out yet, so it's hard to say.
I think Breath of the Wild will win this in the end though. If it loses to something with a lesser reception, then the VGA's will be taken into question. A lot of people seemed to disagree with the last couple of years. Overwatch was great, but winning over Uncharted 4? I don't know, Uncharted 4 achieved so much where Overwatch was Blizzard's twist on the TF2 gametype with crazy mechanics. It was fun but it didn't blow my mind like Uncharted 4 did. Still a good game but that's just me. I also felt that MGSV: The Phantom Pain deserved to win over 2015. I thought it was waaay better than The Witcher 3. Though I suppose that one is far more subjective. I just thought TPP was all around better.

The problem is that its hard to everyone really agree on one game when there is no clear "winner", a game that has outdone every other game. And therein comes alot of those opinions that are not agreeing with the awards. That is good and bad on its own.Bad because its been awhile that we dont get a game on the level of, lets say OOT, so that everyone can agree upon that is the best game and whatnot. On the other hand, that just means that we are getting too many excellent games and people are torn betwenn those games to really choose just one.
But thats how awards goes.I bet that not everyone agrees with the Oscars awards too.In the end, its all just good fun!
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Yeah, timing could hurt BotW's chances.
I don't really see a potential future anything comes close to Zelda.

At the moment Zelda seems the most likely candidate, at least of the ones listed on the poll. I expect something like Nier or Horizon being very high on my personal list. Much higher than games like RDR2 or Andromeda at the very least.
Horizon

A Nintendo game has never won best game at the VGA, so I think RDR2 will take it.
