| RolStoppable said: Why is that in doubt? Switch is Nintendo's only generation 9 platform, so they will give it their all and also cut the price aggressively if that should be necessary. Switch is also in good position to take the lionshare of Japan's third party support. That's not going to happen immediately in 2017 because third parties are always cautious about putting their weight behind Nintendo platforms, but since Nintendo needs Switch to sell, they are going to make it sell; and that's how the third party support will come. |
How is the Switch a gen 9 console?
It's competing with gen 8 consoles. It's underpowered compared to its competitors as well, so it can't be a matter of hardware power. Or do you consider it a gen 9 console because it's the successor to the Wii U? Then that would mean you consider each successive Nintendo console to be a new gen. In which case that would make it Nintendo's 8th home console, since the Color TV was their first, the NES their second, then the SNES, all the way to the Switch being their 8th.
I consider the Switch as pretty much Nintendo's second 8th gen console. Not something unheard of, considering the SG-1000, SG1000-II and Master System from Sega, and the Atari 2600 and 5200.
