| Hynad said: I consider the Switch as pretty much Nintendo's second 8th gen console. Not something unheard of, considering the SG-1000, SG1000-II and Master System from Sega, and the Atari 2600 and 5200. |
I consider it the 9th gen, but I suppose you could lump it in with 8th gen. - To me it's not that important.
The 1st generation hardware was the Magnavox, Color TV-Game.
The 2nd generation was Intellivision, Atari 2600, Coleco Vision.
3rd Generation was the NES, Sega Master System.
4th: SNES, Megadrive.
5th: Nintendo 64, Playstation 1, Saturn.
6th: Playstation 2, Xbox, Gamecube, Dreamcast.
7th: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii.
8th: Xbox One, Playstation 4, Wii U.
9th: Switch.
Nintendo essentially skipped the 2nd gen hardware.
Basically... The Leap in graphics between 1st and 2nd gen was:
To (2nd gen):
And then we got the NES (3rd Gen): -10.jpg)
To the SNES (4th Gen):-14.jpg)
