Forums - Nintendo - Switch games are not all TV compatible (VOEZ)

And I hope it's not the last one.

... if only it had apps too.

I would think most games that intend on using touch screen can still do so in TV mode using the IR camera+motion as a pointer device. idk, guess we'll see.

IR for now is just Kinect. I do wonder how World of Goo is going to work on TV (confirmed). Maybe just with the motion controls.

If you look at the video above you will see that this type of rhythm game would be hard to play with motion controls.

Some of guys are reaching. You really are.

I welcome mobile/screen only games.

The fact that it's able to play games that only our smart phones can play is not a bad thing. It's actually fucking genius because it means the system is now the official Swiss Army Knife of gaming. It's going to explode in Japan.

What's the point of it being more powerful than a Playstation 1 if Nintendo allows cheap indie games on it?

Ah yes, the good old 'I want to be able to respond to your concern but because I cant i will just throw you a dumb question as hopes that it actually provides an answer of some sort... I hope'.

But I am more than willing to let you try again.

You were the one who threw a dumb question on purpose first, weren't you? ;)

I'll put it into a statement: The point of the Switch being a hybrid is not moot because one game of 100 is handheld only, just as the PS4 having a decent GPU is not useless because one game out of 100 doesn't use its GPU to full effect. Your comment is equivalent to someone saying "but what's the purpose of the PS4 controller having buttons?" after seeing a game that's controlled by motion only. Will we put the importance of Xbox Live into question if one game doesn't support online? ("what's the point of Xbox Live if a port of a mobile game doesn't support online play?") Does the PS4 Pro have a point if a random Indie game doesn't profit from boost mode?

Hope that's better. No hard feelings by the way. It's all fun and games :P

Well, if the game depends on the touchscreen, I don't see it as a problem, unless it becomes as common as a Vita TV situation, but it seems highly unlikely.

Very concerning news. Nice find, Faelco.

OMG, I shared a news article and dared to give my own opinion about it after.

I'm a monster! It's so much better to spam useless pseudo-sarcastic threads when we're triggered because different people have different opinion about something...

Didn't see that here yet, but interesting info about the Switch games:

Switch games can be handheld mode only. It's like that for the game VOEZ, a rythm mobile game releasing on Switch in Japan on March 3rd. Being a mobile tactile game, it can be played only in handheld mode with the touchscreen, but just can't be played in TV or table mode. We don't know yet if games can also be TV mode only, but it's clearly a possibility.

My opinion on this is that we can expect quite a bit of games to use that kind of limitation. Developers will try to limit development costs and won't all create 2 different modes for their games. So the Switch will surely get a lot of handheld games without TV mode optimization or even without TV mode at all. I guess the good news about it is that the Switch can get mobile games more easily with almost no work needed for the port (except maybe for F2P games using microtransactions, it would need some work).

Anyway, good news for the devs, less work for them, but I think it could really restrict the hybrid interest of the Switch.

It very obvious that this game doesn't have TV mode because it's rhythm mobile game made around touchscreen and thats only reason. So having game like this just for handheld mode make sense, games like this will be exception, probably just for touch screen mobile games.

Makes sense for touchscreen based games.
I have a hard time thinking why someone would make a TV only game, maybe a few genres like horror, that do rely on a deeper immersion.

Playing Resident Evil Revelations on 3ds under my bed covers was VERY immersive.

Yes, you are a monster. You are all over every small negative tidbit you can find about Nintendo's Switch and try to make it into more than it really is. A couple of weeks ago we discovered how you defended Naughty Dog's DLC practices in a thread about their greed, but Nintendo making better DLC than that got attacked by you, back then and only a couple of weeks ago too.

Your ship for being someone who provides objective criticism has sailed, because you are clearly not capable of doing so.

Please try to read better the threads you're in, then. Someone accused me of defending ND DLC in an old thread, but it turned out that I never posted in the said thread (strange, right?). Too bad.

And try to read this thread better too, you'll learn a few things, like when I talk about "good news" and give pros and cons IMO of the news I gave. You know, like normal people do when they debate about something. I know, it seems so weird here and for some people to be able to see pros and cons of something (we can only 100% hate or love something, right?).

But I'm sorry, it's only my first thread, so I'm not yet an expert in sarcasm and exaggeration leading to 30 pages weird threads. So don't mind me, just go create your own thread and show me how it's done. "PS4 $249 - Is it a fair price?" and "Buying a PS4 or XOne won't get you laid" are still available, so I'll just watch the master and try to learn.

I don't think implementing the two modes, handheld and TV, is terribly expensive. I think this is more a matter of just docking the Switch means you can't use the touch screen. If devs want to use the touchscreen, they'll have to make sure to assign equivalent roles to the physical buttons for the sake of TV play.

On a related note, I really hope Nintendo makes the WiiU gamepad backwards compatible. It needs to be.

Do it Nintendo or else hackers will give it a try themselves. I want to use my gamepad for my Switch!
