Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan Sales- Switch Year 1 vs 3DS and Wii U

Looks like the Switch will pass the 3DS before the 3DS takes off in a few weeks.

Gotta say, I would be a bit surprised if the DQ version was unveiled by Capcom ;P

Juuuust not enough to surpass the 3DS if I checked correctly.

But damn, dat 2nd week after Splatoon 2 is insane, I didn't expect there to be that many consoles to sell. Nintendo really had to hold a full container ship of Switch back for that launch

Updated Launches aligned, the switch has closed the gap significantly between it and the 3ds.

Wut??????????

Fully updated, Switch should pass 3DS next week, and hopefully build a sizable lead (assuming these numbers stay this high) the week after that. I'm not sure if the lead would be enough for it to stay ahead the week of the price cut, but if it does stay ahead it will fall behind the week after. Either way it'll be interesting to see post price cut vs post shipment increase if this really is the result of increased shipment and not just holding back stock for splatoon 2.

Fuck...

Switch is BEASTING!

Pocky Lover Boy!

And thus, the Switch enjoys itself, but in the back of its mind, it knows that this is just the calm. The Calm Before the 3DS Storm.

Comparing something to the 3DS, post-pricecut, really isn't fair... In Japan, it's sold 7.7 million more than Vita, WiiU, PS4 and Switch combined, thus far...

Bet with PeH:

I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.

Bet with WagnerPaiva:

I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

The Switch is supposed to be the 3DS' successor. And will eventually become THE portable gaming in Japan, I'd say it already is. You may think it's not fair, but that's just the way it goes.

And of course it's sold more because that's the system that has been out the longest and it's a Nintendo handheld AND the successor to the DS.
The Vita was a flop.
The Wii U were dead upon arrival.
The PS4, while doing everything it can and may ultimately outsell the PS3 over there, is not coming close to it.
And the Switch JUST came out.
I'm talking about launch specifically up to this point, and the Switch is neck-and-neck thus far and would be beating the 3DS convincingly if there was enough supply to meet demand.
