Forums - Sony - How Long Will PlayStation Vita Servers Run

So I got a PSP in 2009 and it was the best portable, ever. After buying about ten games, I went full digital. I even bought like $300 of digital comic books.

Anyway, to my knowledge, you can't access PSN on PSP, anymore. I think there are PSP games still available to download if you have a Vita, though.

I have a Vita.

Unlike the UMDs for PSP, the games on Vita were much more user friendly. I only went digital when there was no other option. I still managed to fill my 32gb memory card and I've been deleting games or not downloading PS+ titles at all.

So my concern: if PSP was a huge success and it was abandoned, should I worry about my Vita library? I dusted it off about a week ago to play Shenran Kagura and realized I had an awesome library. I don't want to lose anything!

Good question. I've been wondering the same about PS3 lately. There's still a lot of games I bought on sale or got through PS+ that I haven't touched.

That's the trouble with digital downloads when you don't have a big enough hard drive.

Deleting old games for new ones and vise versa only works when servers allow you to. Sucks that Vita cards are so expensive and that you cant just toss all your games on an SD card for future proofing yourself.

Well, you can create backups on your PC. It's not a perfect solution, but if you believe Sony will pull them off of PSN to re-download, then it's an option to consider.

Good question, probably 2020.

Can you?

I mean the Vita uses a propriatery card right? So can you hook that up to the pc to transfer? Can you hook up Vita directly to the pc to transfer? I mean with a 3DS, it's just a micro sd, so any old adaptor can get you to transfer stuff to teh pc easy.  Is there an adapter for the Vita cards?

I don't have a Vita, I'm just curious.

Just use Henkaku and never worry about it.

That's a real issue for people going online only. I suppose the servers will stay online as long as sony exists. Because digital only consumers will have a big disadvantage over those who get the physical version. Wii's online store is also still available.

You can download your PSP games on the Vita, so I'm not seeing what's the issue exactly here

Yes. You can do full memory card backups to your PC. You can store all games, saves, pictures, music, and video on your PC. It takes a bit to transfer, but it all works. It connects to your PC using the charger (which has a USB port).
