I like it!
Switch!!!
As a portable the Switch is too big for me. Yes I can carry it in a backpack but if I'm just going somewhere without a bag its too big. I thought the Vita was too big and could only just get it in my pocket with a bit of careful manoeuvring. However I don't do enough gaming on the go to justify the Switch.

I think the reason it has that is to acommodate for the Joy Cons, otherwise they'd probably be way too tiny to hold. |
This guy gets it! It's why I highly doubt we'll see this Switch mini many have been talking about unless Nintendo forces it by compromising the controls.

I don't know, since they already use the SL/SR buttons for docking, all you'd need is a device that is wide enough to accomodate the said buttons.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

But not the full length of the Joy Cons leaving their ends hanging off? That'd probably make the system awkward to grip and the Joy Cons easier to accidentally break off, oh and it'd look pretty ugly lel.

I think the controls are already compromised to reach the size they are. The layout looks uncomfortable for many games, there are no analogue triggers. I don't see any problem carry on with the horribly compromised layout to a smaller form factor in fact I could see a new switch compatible portable having much improved controls perhaps with analogue triggers finally brought back.
No lie, when I first used the triggers on the wii u gamepad I thought they were faulty because they had little movement. I just assumed they would be analogue not cheap and nasty on/off switches. Need for Speed Most Wanted was a good port on the wii u but always prefered the ps3 version because of the better controls. Nintendo just can't seem to get the basics right nowadays.

True, all the inputs are already smaller than normal, no proper D-pad, and the sticks aren't offset, but they'd probably have to be compromised further in order to fit in your pocket, like going back to circle pads and even smaller inputs.
As for analogue triggers, the lack of has nothing to do with the Switch's size. Nintendo had them with the Gamecube, but haven't since, I'm guessing because they don't feel the need for them, not for their games anyway.

Thing looks great. I'm more willing to pay $300 for it now (wouldn't mind buying an MK8 bundle though). |
Just looking at those pics made me think of something in regards to price.
Lets say the Wii U was not a total bomb, and was a relatively successful console. Then lets say the Switch was not a new console, but just a "slim" version per chance. You know an updated model of teh Wii U. It did nothing the Wii U couldn't do. No extra portability, just a new basically gamepad.
Would people be willing to accept the price? I mean I see lots of people on forums buying a SECOND PS4 or something when a slim version comes out. They are basically spending money pointlessly cause they already have the system that can play the games.
So really makes me question peoples qualms with the $300. This isn't just a slim, its a new console. Looking at these pics it looks like a slim as well. It's like getting the updated slim verison on release date.

I was somewhat upset at the $300 price tag at first, expecting a $249.99 but these pics make the Switch look very appealing to me. To fit a WiiU+ into such a small package I imagine must have taken considerable technological know-how. The thing looks great!
Took 28 years but Nintendo caught up with Atari Lynx!
