Is it wrong to bring up profit when discussing revenue?

Nintendo made more profit this quarter due to foregin exchange gains.

That's part of it, I'm sure.

EDIT: I'm assuming we're talking about gaming division only? If we include all of Sony then you have to account for the 1 billion dollar writedown in their movie business.

I'm aware of Sony's struggling film division.

Are you aware of what a writedown is? Because a writedown of 1 billion dollars in their movie division doesn't mean that their movie division lost 1 billion dollars. It means Sony have realized that until now they have overestimated the value of their movie division, so they now have to reduce in in their balance sheet, and this action is accounted as a loss. It's merely an accounting loss. Microsoft had the same a few quarters ago, where they had a writedown of 7 billion dollars in their mobile division.

None of the big three are struggle-free.

I'm not sure what this has to do with the discussion, but yeah (depending on what you mean by "struggle").

Sony spends more money than they have it seems tho. Why they seem to want to sell off the entire TV and Film division. Sony more and more seemingly becoming a console company and less a Media/Electronics giant they once were.

If you think Sony was made up of only those 3 business units, then sure, Sony is seemingly becoming a console only company.

But if you actually knew what you were talking about, you'd know they have a bunch of other divisions.

Was it that hard? Like, you at least knew Sony Music or their home entertainment products right?

U mad? The point it they been selling off divisions left and right since 2012 and cut 18000+ jobs. I said Sony is getting CLOSER and CLOSER to a console company AT THIS RATE. Also 2 of the divisions listed is up for sale. So get mad if you want but Sony every year has been massively downsizing.

Why do you thank Microsoft as if you were the one profiting from all this?

I blame consumers. People were ok in paying Live, so there wasn't a single reason why Sony, and now Ninty, wouldn't do the same. People went as far as saying that Live was better because it was paid. My PSN didn't became miraculously better after the paywall, I would say the free game selection became worse.

MS was better because of the price. That's the reason most of us told you not to pay for PSN, since it wasn't really better after they started charging...

Uh, how do you think Sony has been able to finance the expansion of the service as well as features that would likely never had materialized without the extra capital?

both companies already release their lastest quarterly results, so can you show us data that back up your statement?

I think these might be it?

https://thetechportal.com/2017/01/31/nintendo-quarterly-earnings-released/

http://www.usnews.com/news/business/articles/2017-02-02/sony-records-84-pct-quarterly-profit-drop-on-movie-loss

Nintendo's $569 million in profit versus Sony's $174 million in profit. Movie business hurting Sony.

By the way:

Why the difference between Microsoft and Sony? Gaming Revenue vs. Game & Network Services respectively?

Someone here with a Twitter account able to ask him?

The difference is because each company names their divisions and departments differently. Sony calls Playstation, Game & Network Services. That's all it is. The chart above shows how much each company brought in via their gaming offerings.

Sony says it won't sell movie biz

Those were unconfirmed rumours. None of Sony's divisions are currently up for sale. Stop spreading false information.
