What? A super Bowl add, Isn't that incredibly expensive? Is pretty cool btw, on the line with the awesome marketing Switch is getting.

They have to raise awareness before launch in the first place. People might be tempted to order it, and when they see it's sold out everywhere, they'll figure this console is what everybody wants. Momentum will pick up as awareness spread even further. And now they'll be able to switch focus to upcoming games (first and third party) |

Because people be aware of new NIntendo console. For instance mass market didn't were aware that Wii U was new Nintendo console. |
Nintendo didn't need to advertise in the super bowl for Wii and that was their most successful home console ever. All this is, is a waste of millions that could be used for better purposes. 5 million for 30 seconds isn't worth it. This is half the goal for Shenmue 3. Think about that.

They didnt needed for Wii, but on other hand awareness and marketing was biggest problem for Wii U, and they needed to do much better job with Switch. Strong and great marketing is good thing, not bad.

well doesn't the Super Bowl get a cumulative 1B views roughly ? I recall reading something along those lines...

The general consumer who isn't a gamer who sees this might be interested, go to GameStop or Best Buy to pre-order, find out it's sold out, and by the time March rolls around, they might just forget about it. |
Yeah, or they might not, like with the Wii.

That's pretty riddiculus logic. Wii didn't need a Super Bowl ad, therefore a Super Bowl Ad is a waste of money. You know what else the Wii didn't need? Core gamers. Good online. Voice Chat. A traditional controller layout. Doesn't mean they wouldn't benefit other products.
It's definitely a good way to get the word out for a March launch, at least in the US. Commercial looks pretty good too!

Wii would like to play is one of the advertising campaigns ever...
Yeah, that was really cool. I think Nintendo is advertising Switch in the right way, and having a Super Bowl commercial is a nice way to market the console. I'm surprised on how good the commercials are lately.
If Nintendo can keep the marketing up like this, the NS could do really well
