Many sure, but many others not

Same skipped it on Wii u. |
Honestly, Xenoblade Chronicles X and Pokken Tournament are the kind of games I want to see ported: games where technical limitations are very much clear. I honestly have no interest in a Smash 4 port or a Super Mario 3D World or Donkey Kong Country Tropicalreze cause those are all fine enough on Wii U. My only reason for being interested in MK8 is because I really like playing Kart on the go and MK8 is a ton better than 7. Also, battle mode looks super fun.

Since I'm selling my Wii U with all its games - I'd really like to see some ports of the best Wii U titles, and I'd buy/rebuy them, on the condition that they at least upresed/enhanced or included some added content in some way. I think Nintendo would be foolish not to do this. Not only is it a quick and easy way to boost Switch's library, but chances are many Switch owners haven't owned a Wii U and thus haven't played them so they'd be new to them anway. Some games I'd like to see -
Super Mario 3D World - maybe throw Captain Toad in there as a bonus
Super Mario Maker (maybe with more premade stages and a few more features)
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze - maybe as part of a bundle with the original DKCR on Wii?
Pikmin 3
NSMB U - bundled with the other NSMB games perhaps and Luigi U? Now THAT'D be sweet..
Xenoblade Chronicles X (although I probably wouldn't rebuy this one since I'm pretty set on Switch RPGs already)

I also have doubts about Smash 4... Getting people to triple dip might be harder than we realize... Plus it's the Nintendo series with the biggest competitive scene and members of the community are pretty militant about their favorite Smash installment... A lot of Smash fans (if not the majority of hardcore fans) will be upset about a Smash 4 port because it won't play like Melee... |
Why would another port of Smash 4 not strengthen the series? Seems like Smash fans don't like change, and a port changes nothing.

I think it's better to make sequels as they did with Splatoon,
seeing MK8 port gives little confidence in getting MK9 on the Switch.
SM3DW's sequel is out this year.
SMM port could be possible, not sure what a sequel would add.
DKCTT port might give this title more sales.
Pikmin 4 sequel is next.
NSMBU? Better make a more ambitious sequel.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Other million seller sequels can come from the Party series (WPU/MP10), Hyrule Warriors sequel (although there is a FE one instead), Pokken fleshed out sequel, Fit series sequel or Bayonetta 3?
Probably not.
So far only Mario Kart 8, Rayman Legends and Lego City Undercover were confirmed.
And Zelda, of course, but that´s another story because it´s a simultaneous launch.
I don´t think Nintendo will do more ports, they need to focus on new games

I mean, the more you look at Splatoon 2, the more differences you see. No super weapons return, all the weapons have new meshes, they seem to have adjusted, improved, and added some effects, there's a new singleplayer. So I would just remove Splatoon from that list. And Rayman Legends is a Ubisoft port. So Nintendo only has a hand in 2 ports. I have doubts on Smash and Mario maker. Smash because I think they will focus on Smash 5 and Mario Maker because it won't be nearly as elegant as it was on Wii U. |
Yep. The visuals and art style are similar but it´s definetely a new game. Probably it will have more multiplayer modes too.

Analog triggers have different inputs depending on how much you press them, whereas digital ones only have one input (so it doesn't matter how much you press them, the result is going to be the same). You could do different things in Sunshine depending on how much, or how little, you pressed said triggers. |
Couldn't they remap the water cannon to the second analog stick? Left stick = running speed and direction, right stick = direction and intensity of the water

They could, but...would they?!
I think ports is a good way to fill the gaps of releases (since we won't see many third party games). I would bet that we'll see (in some point) ports of Mario Maker, Pokken Tournament, Yoshi's Woolly World, Bayonetta (1&2) and Donkey Kong Country (maybe just Tropical Freeze, maybe Returns in HD could come along and that would be awesome). The cost of producing HD games was one of the problems Nintendo had to deal when they launch the Wii U, so I guess they will try to gain a little more from the games they already made, before spending money in a new Bayonetta or Donkey Kong. Even if this games don't sell that well in the Switch, a port is way more cheap so it's a good option for test some franchises with a larger install base that we expect Switch to have. Also, I don't expect ports of games that already have sequences being developed like Splatoon and Xenoblade and I don't think a port of Smash 4 would be a good idea, since it already sold very well in Wii U and 3DS. They should focus on a Smash 5.

Totally agree with you. It's more likely that we had ports of games that a sequel wouldn't add much or it's too early to make (like Mario Kart 8 port, Nintendo knows that Mario Kart sells, but they can wait a little long 'till MK9). Donkey Kong and Mario Maker seems good options, since there's little that could be add in a new game with the Switch's hardware to justify a sequel. Pikmin, Mario 2D and Xenoblade will all receive sequels in the right time.
