Forums - Nintendo - Is Nintendo's online service almost certain to cost $50 a year?

I certainly hope not... $30/Year is what I'm hoping for. We'll have to see what they actually offer, they need the features and online experiences to justify it.

I don't want to pay $50/Year to just play Mario Kart and possibly Splatoon online. Online for two games isn't worth that.

Though if they make you subscribe for local wireless too.... ha.... ha....

Imho it'll be lower, probably 30/40$

If there's anything good about the fact that you don't get to keep your "free" NES/SNES games it's that you don't need to worry about keeping a subscription going unless you're absolutely going to play online during that time.

I was hoping for like 30 euro for a year. Or lower.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

it should only be $20 per year.

Sony and Microsoft offer a large range of content with online functions. Nintendo is opening with MK8 Deluxe and Splatoon.

Sony and Microsoft grant their subscribers 4 free games every month and they are allowed to use them as long as they pay for a subscription. In Microsoft's case, Xbox 360 users dont even have to keep paying in order to keep the game. Nintendo is only offering 1 classic game per month, and it disappears once the month is over, regardless is you keep paying or not.

Sony and Microsoft have multiple apps that use voice chat while playing games online. Nintendo might not even have any form of voice chat built into the Switch and rely on smart devices.

the Wii U and 3DS also still have free online functions making the Switch's paid service less enticing.

If they really think they can charge a full $60 annual paid service, they will be hit with huge backlash. as for me personally, I will not pay anything over $20 annually

I'm thinking they can start low around $30/40, maybe lose some money on it. In a few months or a year once they get the network working up to par with the others and customers are happy, they can raise it and most people won't even mind if they are satisfied and are promised more commitment/improvement.

Dont forget functions such as shareplay and crowd storage either. Those functions can be pretty helpful if your console ever thinks fuck it I am out. Or you want to recommend a game to a friend.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

My first thought on the price when they announced it and what we know it will offer was a price of $2.99 a month or $30 per year.

I think it should be cheaper since their online hasn't always been the best so they have to prove that paid online will help improve.

I think 30 dollars is a fair price, 2.5 dollars per month that is. 40 isn't that comfortable but still alright.
We don't know enough about it, from the phone app being optional to if we keep the monthly VC. It's too early to judge.
