The bad thing is that games might only be released in Japan if the Switch only does well there.

The good thing being that the Switch is region free. Publishers might include english subs on the japanese releases and let people import.

I will have to say yes due to Switch's portability aspect. That and the likes of Pokemon, Monster Hunter, Fire Emblem Splatoon and various other top selling titles/franchises should be enough for it to overtake PS4 in Japan at least.

of course it will.

an absolutely absurd thread. Its a hybrid, yes, but HEAVILY portable. It will sell a lot in Japan, the PS4 hasn't really sold THAT well I don't think when compared with like the PS1

I know, the main point I really wanted to focus on was how Japnese sales would effect the platform as a whole even on a global basis. Such as overall worldwide sales and what 3rd part support it could get. But I think this thread hasn't really turned out that well in that case since that part was mostly overlooked. Probably could of worded the overall thead better.

I think it will do well in Japan but its hardly in the same ballpark as 3DS. It's larger and more expensive. Did the larger format Vita do well in Japan? I think its likely to do ok numbers until a smaller more compact version is produced which will then do significant numbers in Japan.

Again same as other regions, initially there will be strong sales by the die-hard fans but its after this that is more significant to see if it appeals to a wider audience. It also depends on which games come to Switch of course that will be a huge factor in its success or failure in Japan. So there are quite a few variables in play.

Hope it does so it gets even more JRPGs on the system.

It wouldn't be that much of a surprise, based on the landscape for handheld gaming in Japan. But...It would also be competing with Vita and 3DS which do very well.

This thread reminds me WiiU launch when everyone thought itd success was à given Because of Wii.
You could bé surprised expected way too much from Switch, its highly unlikely it reaches 3DS sales, éven Wii sales in Japan is not likely.

This will bé an interesting thread to bump in One year i think to comparé prédictions of success back then with whar really happened.

I think this is a case of misremembering, because all I remember of the WiiU reveal and launch was how stupid the name was, it being under powered and the price being to high for what was in the box. I don't recall people saying it would be a guaranteed success with a Wii title tied in the name...

I'm not worried in the slightest about the Switch in Japan.  It's going to sell fantastically over there and that audience will continue to be the biggest influence as to how Nintendo plans and develops their software.  I have no problem with that except with Metorid; that's a franchise that needs to be developed by a western studio with extensive supervision by Nintendo.

Switch will easily outsell PS4 and Wii U combined.

I think it's a given tbh.
