I wouldn't call codename steam a clusterfuck. I just think that not every game is going to be a winner. I think it would have been much better on an HD console with a better writer, though. The premise was neat.

The real test will be how they handle Arms. A good idea with a bad first impression. My guess is that Arms will come out in late May, so they have a lot of time to improve impressions and show more. No way Arms launch's without an Arms direct, too.

I agree with that, it would have been way more successful on the WiiU. The gamepad would've allowed better controlls, and it had way less competition, specially because it could have filled the Fire Emblem niche the WiiU lacked (SMTxFE doesn't count, it's a Shin Megame Tensei game first and foremost). But I still think the concept was flawed, the tone, artstyle and gameplay didn't mix at all. W101, and specially Splatoon were way more focused and clear with their goals. Shame that W101 didn't sell that well, from what I've seen it looks very fun.

For now, ARMS still has a lot to show to people, because it's going to need to prove a lot to those who think it's just an upgraded cartoony version of boxing in Wii Sports. I can see it working if they take a tone similar to PunchOut Wii. That was a fun boxing game.

By the way, what's your take on Ever Oasis? I don't think it's going to be a mess like STEAM, but it may just be too overshadowed by new hardware and software.

I think Arms literally just needs to have a demo without motion controls to show people it isn't Wii Boxing. As for the tone? Who knows? It definitely seems to have a dark underbelly, going by that one stage with the fighters in tubes.

I really don't know anything about ever Oasis lol but I think being on the 3DS will stifle it like with Steam.

Hm, you might be right on this actually. I think there's definitely a big focus on new IP at Nintendo when compared to what it used to be, but personally I still wish they give us plenty of awesome stuff from what they already have.

In other words, having a new IP every one or two years is great and all, but just give me some fucking Metroid already. 2D or 3D, I don't care. Both, if possible. But come on.

Not to be rude or anything, but no one cares for Metroid.

Seems like it'll join Punch-Out and others as IP's that may get revived, but will probably stay dead for the time being.

I think Punch-Out and Metroid seem very fitting, especially with joycons. Think about it...what do both games feature? Two arms. Joy sticks can make the gameplay very exciting and show the power of the Switch.

Metroid is one of the classic three Nintendo franchises, alongside Mario and Zelda. Just go to the Metroid Prime Federation Force trailer on Youtube and read the comments (if they are still avalible), and you'll see how many people care about Zelda.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I am worried for Nintendo.... the revenue from switch alone isnt going to keep them running. They used to have revenue from 3ds + wiiu + software; or ds + wii + software.

Now they'll only have switch + software and if switch doesnt sell well, so doesnt software then. Switch needs to sell over 50million for nintendo not to make big changes to their company's strategy, imo.

Sure, they are diverting to mobile already. But I am sure this is something most gamers dont want, fans or non fans alike.

Not happening, they have 10 billion dollars showed away in the bank, so they could tank every year until 2052. And that won't happen ever, because Nintendo has the fanbase, the products and the ideas.

Amazing thread! I love reading your perspective one it! There were news or rumors how some Wii U games were moved to the Switch. I think that allowed them to have more time to do other things. They probably just need to finish making the game + implement the portable part into it. Can't really comment on this...... cause I dont even know what part of Nintendo makes what games.

And I feel like after Splatoon, Nintendo saw or realize something. And how I think they are trying to re create that magic in Arms.
- Colourful Visuals
- Heavily focused on multiplayer
- The characters have 1 thing in common (Splatoon = Squids + Kids / Arms = Extendable Arms + Robots/humans)
- Interesting controls (Splatoon = Gyroscope / Arms = Motion controls ) Both can also use a normal controller.

But we'll see if that magic strikes again. Splatoon is a shooter genre while Arms is Fighting...... One is definitely more popular than the other.

Pocky Lover Boy!

If Nintendo is going to create more new IP, then they should feel like new IP. Splatoon knocks it out of the park in this regard; an exciting new gameplay concept built around accessible controls and a rethinking of the shooter genre...that to me is a new IP. I also think this is a reason why Nintendo is hesitant to create more new franchises, because they would simply feel too similar to their existing properties.

I think you brought up some interesting points, but I still think nintendo is doing less than they should on this area. They got to keep the wii u for their own for the most part, and the third party lineup for switch isn't really looking any better thus far. I don't get why nintendo isn't interested in expanding their studios to be able to make more games. Where is 1080 and waverace for example? Splatoon, xenoblade and arms are greatly appreciated, but why not tap into a western rpg, maybe a more realistic type shooter. No one else is giving us them on nintendo consoles, I really doubt nintendo wouldn't be able to make these break even as well. More variety is sorely needed.

I also don't think they're pushing the xenoblade franchise nearly as much as they should. Monolith soft are gods, truly.

If all these projects start like Splatoon did, We wouldn't necessarily need to wait that much for entries in the already established IPs, say for example the Zelda team: I'm 100% shure that they've started working on the Thief game but honestly we're talking about a team that is so big that they can have a medium-small group of devs working on the Thief game while everyone else works on the next Zelda, given the team now has experience with HD development and an engine to use I would expect the next Zelda game to come out in 2/3 years similarly to how Majora's Mask came out one year after Ocarina of Time, instead, since not the whole team is working on the new Zelda, they might need the regular 5 years they always need to make the game...

afaik Nintendo's staff is constantly growing, it's simply not that easy to find developers that meet Nintendo's standards and to instruct them properly on what to work on...

Lol, what?

Every person I've tried talking to in real life either:

a) Doesn't know what Metroid is

b) Forgot all about it

c) Asks if it is a new type of droid coming out

I seriously don't see how it's possible when everyone in the internet demands a Metroid game. Where do all these people live? I never see anyone talk about Metroid. I'd love to have a person to talk about Metroid with
