Forums - Nintendo - Would Nintendo put Pokemon on Switch ?

2 mil for Pokemon Switch. I'll take that bet!

Around the Network

I think they'll troll us by first giving us Pokken Tournament or some other Pokemon spinoff before a mainline pokemon game.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Gamefreak already confirmed the games are coming to the Switch so

No, they absolutely didn't. They said they would wait the release of the console and see if it was a success. That's the opposite. There are no pokemon games currently on development by gamefreak on Switch.

Yes.

There's also such a thing as releasing a game on two systems.

While I agree that that at face value there is nothing stopping putting them on both it should only be done with remasters , Nintendo needs to be putting out a statement that says , the  handheld /home console ecosystem we have talked about with the switch is real. and the best way to do that would be to showcase a Pokemon main game  exclusive to Switch.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Put the remakes of Pokemon Diamond/Pearl or the third version of the 7th gen  on Switch and it will sells 2 millions at best.

Put them on 3DS and it will sell 10+ millions easily.

That's why Black and White 2 released on DS and not 3DS even after 3DS launch. I don't see Nintendo risking to slice its game sales by 5 until the Switch is well established.

That's why I never believed the Star rumor. It makes no sense financially for Nintendo and Gamefreak to lose money. People love pokemon but won't buy a 330 euros devices juste for it alone.

The more I think about it, I'm inclined to agree with you that the Pokemon Star for Switch rumor isn't true.  If it were announced, I feel like it would mark the unofficial death of the 3DS when Nintendo probably wants to milk the handheld for one or two more years.

Nintendo needs a failsafe net in case the Switch isn't an immediate success. They will keep the 3DS alive just enough and will rather sell millions of pokemons with easy jobs like diamond/pearl remakes or the third episode of the 7th gen.

Hit the nail on the head , also by making a pokemon main game for the switch, they would be putting out a statement that says , the  handheld /home console ecosystem  we have talked about with the switch is real.

That's true.

But it doesn't adress the net loss of sales because of the very low Switch market. A Switch version would cost way much to develop, would also be longer to program, take more ressources and would sell way less.

Even the 3DS had to wait 2 years and half to get its first main pokemon game.

Of course they will

Black 2 White 2 and Emerald came on the last gen system because the user base is not there yet

But we can see that the games following definitely did, so this will likely be the case with the Switch if Pokemon doesn't come this year (which I don't expect it to)

I'm sure it will sell more than 2M

A mainline Pokemon game will single-handedly make the Switch a huge success.

It would sell more than 2m on Switch even if the console base only ever reached 10m.

And in terms of money, Pokemon pushes hardware massively, and you probably make better money in the long run from selling more Switch systems than software for one game on the 3DS.

Um, a third version would be easy to do. Just enhance the visuals/resolutions, add in the typical "join together the two game storyline" and be done with it. Meanwhile, they can work on their next resmaster or next new generation.
