Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Offers Metroid And Mother 3 Fans Some Very Slight Hope

They just need to make a good Metroid game, and we'll eat it all up. Make mediocre games like Other M and Federation Force and the sales will decline. Make great Metroid games like Super Metroid and Metroid Prime, and we'll sacrifice puppies to play it.

Lol, I wish that were so.  Unfortunetely metroid games don't sell all that great.  Hopefully if they do announce a metroid prime or super metroid like game people will buy it.

Its not about selling power. Its about showing fans that Nintendo is serious about making quality games and not just the annual franchises and the same old.

OK, but your original post seemed to suggest that Nintendo, by ignoring Metroid, was ignoring a large number of sales. I think the highest-selling Metroid game failed to clear 3 million units sold.

What annual franchises? We got a Zelda game in 2011, 2013, and now 2017. Smash Bros. in 2001, 2008, and 2014. Mario Kart in 2005, 2008, 2011, 2014, and now 2017. Animal Crossing in 2005, 2008, 2013, and, in 2015, a couple spin-offs.

Same old? What about Splatoon, which cleared 4 million units sold? Mario Maker? Code Name: S.T.E.A.M.? What about Arms, which will arrive on Switch shortly?

Nintendo's first party includes racers, fighters, sims, strategy games, action-adventure games, platformers, lots of RPGs, puzzle games, party games, shooters, and sports games.

What exactly are you looking for?

No. Its Nintendo ignoring a dedicated fanbase. Sure it might not sell a million but by ignoring the fanbase there is no chance at that fanbase growing. Look at Fire Emblem. Pathetic sales for years but finaly started coming around. Final Fantasy didn't start getting big until 6. By not keeping the franchise going it is effectively killing any chance at the game catching on later and that is a shame.

I hope these games end up on the Switch, their fanbase has been begging for it.

Hey I adore Metroid. I desperately want a new one. I'm just saying it doesn't have the cachet of other Nintendo properties.

I think a lot of folks want it because it's Nintendo's "adult" franchise. It's seen as a prestige game.

Metroid needs to go darker and embrace the M rating. I loved Prime as a pre-teen and a teenage but honestly... it hardly does well with the younger generation. They want Halo. Metroid is a far more complex and more mature themed game than Halo is and Metroid needs to embrace that.

It's great as it is but it's influenced by some pretty hardcore R rated shit like Aliens. All the gore on the visor and stuff, the violence game off more realistic than the cartoony looking blood in Halo way back when. I remember when people wanted Prime 4 to take on a horror feel to it.

Basically I want it to be an FPS again. It feels too natural and Metroid needs to stick with the exploration vibe with heavy action sequences and unique boss fights. Oh and if the VR rumor is true, lets play a bit with that. I'm sure most guys have no problem being Samus xD I mean lets be real. She's probably more Alpha as fuck than they are.

Halo is a game where you run around and go pew pew.  Metroid is a game where you spend half of your time wandering around hopefully stumbling upon a cracked wall you missed.

Halo being more popular doesn't have much to do with it being M rated, particularly because Halo isn't exceptionally violent.  It's just that Halo is a very accessible pick up and play title, and Metroid is the exact opposite.

Of course! I agree 100% :) I guess I should have added more context to labeling Metroid more complex. I do agree that Halo is one of the most accessible shooters out there. It's simple, it's fun, and its great. Metroid is all big boss fights, exploration, scanning things, solving puzzles. It just overall feels so much more mature to me and I'd love Nintendo to push all of these elements to the next level. The majority of all the Metroid are all grown up and it's not an easy game to sell to the younger generation. The sales of Federation Force should show how rejected a non-realistic art style for Metroid is. The fans are quite clear on what they want. The only real split in the community are two things. 3D or 2D (I'm in the 3D FPS crowd) and the acceptance of Multiplayer. I was a vet in Prime Hunters and I want that in more depth. I do not want something like the throw away Prime 2 multiplayer. The hardcore community in Hunters is huge! I love it.

To be fair it's been so long since the last time we had a Metroid game that as far as we know Metroid could be the most appealing game ever if released today... If Nintendo advertises it properly it will sell 2M+ for shure

You just killed that! Just reminded me once again how I love Nintendo games!

Pocky Lover Boy!

Of Course, people who think Nintendo showed everything has for Switch are wrong, they definitely keeping some games, for instance E3 is only 3 months after Switch launch.

Please, no. Metroid is never going to be a super seller by itself, but at least it has an active fanbase that would buy a console for it.

Making it a darker game won't fix the former. I'ts like the "Metroid needs a deeper story" that ended up with that beloved Masterpiece called Other M.

Oh Metroid would benefit from a deeper story that explores the universe of Metroid. I wouldn't call "Other M" being what players had in mind. As a game designer I've actually had plenty of ideas of making a good Metroid trilogy. From story, to set pieces, characters, to gameplay. I would expand on what made the Prime series so good and add some new and unique gameplay elements. One of my ideas was asymmetrical gameplay element where Samus can explore in Varia suit and be exit at any time and be more agile. When she leaves the suit she's able to have her suit be an AI. I don't want to compare this to Titan Fall as I actually have been playing with these ideas for over 6 or 7 years now. Plus this would allow for a variation in combat, exploration, and puzzle solving.  I do believe that if Samus has a way to communicate with her ship remotely, she surely has something to remotely control her suit.

My biggest change would be a potential retcon on Sylux's character. To give a reason why he hates Samus so much as he would actually be cooperating with the Galactic Federation to clear his sentence to them for all the damage he's caused.

The point is I know Nintendo can make another masterpiece for this series. However what isn't possible is pleasing everyone with a more simplistic Metroid game. This game is NOT going to be everyone. It might as well embrace being a complicated series. If Dark Souls can gain an insane user base with it's less then accessible gameplay. Then Metroid can do the same for FPS games. Besides Metroid Prime on the hardest difficulty setting can be beyond nerd raging. Why not embrace the best elements and keep at it. If the Switch is a big enough hit then the sales will follow.
