The conference itself was very Japanese heavy, a little awkward and lacked the some of the glitz of the PS4 reveal. It also had less amazing content, particularly on the third party side. But it was good, and delivered a lot of info. And a number of games looked excellent.
I liked:
-Innovative hardware features built in. Full Wiimote support through Joycons, advanced rumble, advanced IR sensing - this stuff is awesome and you're not seeing that kind of hardware innovation anywhere else. It's fun.
-Price is decent. I expected paid online.
-Zelda is breathtaking.
-Super Mario Odyssey is far better name than SM3DW. Looks like very good title.
-XBC2 makes my heart sing. Glad to see them return to that style and the return of ACE to do the music is fantastic. This game alone makes the system worth the purchase.
-Octopath Traveler. Total retro Square goodness. Looks wonderful.
For me, that's a pretty solid opening for the new system. 4 games that I really, really want. On the con side, Nintendo didn't do enough to convert non-buyers. Zelda is going to lure a lot of people in, but if they really want to shake up the market they need to do things they don't normally do. Skyrim is on the right path, but they need something more impressive and controversial from third parties. Alas, the system also looks weak so massive third party support is unlikely.
