Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Switch Countdown: Final Day WiiU Favorite Games/Memories/Etc???

It had the year of Luigi, my favorite character ever. It had the best Smash Bros game ever. It had both Bayonetta games. And it had a brand new Star Fox g game. The WiiU gave me tons of fun, it will be remembered for that. It's a shame it had the gamepad, I absolutely hated it.

The main feeling/memory of Wii U is disappointment and loooooooooong periods of nothing

I remember playing Mario in HD for the first time was cool. Game was underwhelming though. I also got ZombiU at launch, which remains the best use of the Gamepad, which says it all.

I remember buying Lego City Undercover 6 months later just to have something to play. It was ok, it passed a few hours, but nothing impressive. I then played some Earthbound over the summer, again just because I wanted something to play. Put about 20 hours into it, didn't really click with me

The best part of the Wii U's life was the last five months of 2013. Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, Wonderful 101, Super Mario 3D World and Windwaker HD was a great lineup and finish to that year.

2014 was shit. Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8 and Captain Toad were good, but I don't remember anything else

2015, Splatoon was a breath of fresh air. Like the small campaign, loved the main multiplayer mode. But the other modes they added I didn't enjoy and there was increasing connectivity problems. So that was disappointing. As was Super Mario Maker, I loved the concept but all people were making at the beginning was auto-scrollers or super difficult levels, so I soon gave up with that. I understand it's a lot better now, but I no longer care enough to check. Woolly World was enjoyable.

2016: pretty much given up on the console at this point. Didn't bother catching up with Xenoblade, didn't bother with Tokyo Sessions even though I was looking forward to them for years.

Overall, I would give the console 3/10. It had five or six great games, which isn't close to enough.

I wouldn't say Zombie U had the best use of the gamepad. I'dsay the best use of it was Super Mario Maker, Windwaker HD, or Xenoblade Chronicles X. Maybe it's just me though.

I remember waiting long periods for Star Fox Zero and Xenoblade Chronicles X ... so long that i ended up just not getting them. The Wii U only lasted a few months on my shelf and i wasnt good enough at Splatoon to pick it up again. I DO remember how fun Bayonetta 2 and Super Mario 3d World where! I played those soo much. I also remember how hyped I got for Smaah despite not knowing 99% of the characters. And when i played Metroid Prime for the first time... my mind was blown :o

Mario kart 8, Smash WiiU, 3D World, Splatoon, Bayonetta 2 and Pikmin 3. Had some good times with the poor fella!

PS2 - DS - Wii - 3DS - Wii U

I have never invested sooo much and had sooooo much fun on a gaming system (I wont count PC) than the Wii U!

- Nintendo Land! One of the best Party games I have ever played. The Mario chase was always fun when I brought it to school. Everyone kept shouting the colours XD

- 3D World! First 3D mario since a looooooong time! Sooo much fun! The level designs were all soooo cute!

- MK8! The graphics was AMAZING! It shocked me!

- Hyrule Warriors! The game my little brother started getting interested to Link!

- Super Smash! 8 Players at school! Boom! Great times! They kept choosing Charizard and keep spamming that boost move! SOOOOO Crazy! Most of the times you don't know where you are going!

- Splatoon! I knew I was gonna love this game................ But I never knew It would be one of the most funnest games I ever played! Best Game on Wii U! Best Game this Gen! (Not counting Switch)

- TMS #FE! Im glad this was my last game on the Wii U! The visuals were sooooooooo COLOURFUL! The Gameplay was sooooooooo fun that the grinding never felt boring. The Characters were all soooooooo LOVEABLE!

I had sooooo much fun guys! And its just going to continue and may be better on a system that will be revealed in almost less than 13 hours!

Pocky Lover Boy!

And then Nintendo blew it. The WiiU opened up the cracks in my faith and liking for them that were patched in previous years. It was a disappointing console, and my least favorite of their's. A distinction I never expected the Gamecube to lose. Still it wasn't all bad, a handful of games were actually good, but really the only thing that stood out for memorability was it's primary launch-title;

Nintendoland

Nintendoland is probably the best mini-game compilation I ever played, beating even the good Mario Party games. It's mini-games were all clever, using old IP's and games, brushing them up and using the features of the console in a great way. My favorite was the Donkey Kong mini-game where you navigate a small cart through an obstacle course themed like the old Donkey Kong arcade game using the Gamepad's gyro-sensors. Nintendoland was really the only game I cared about sharing the experience with others.

There's other games though that I would deem noteworthy enough for once, simply because otherwise the list is so short. Mind if I were this lenient with my lists for NES, SNES, N64, GB and 3DS, they would have included much more games than they did because with these I'm including basically half my library. Those others are;

Mario Kart 8
Super Mario 3D World
Super Mario Maker

Mario Kart 8 is probably the best Mario Kart ever made when looked at it as objectively as possible. The new mechanic of anti-gravity was a great addition and it features pretty much only good tracks. My interest in it didn't last as long as they did with most other Mario Karts though. Similarly, Super Mario 3D World is in every way a better game than it's predecessor on 3DS and it's the best game on the system, but unlike that one World never amazed me. Land is better at being a 3DS game than World is at being a WiiU game. This was also the premier Mario game on the system, a far-cry in scope, imagination and ambition 64, the Galaxies and even Sunshine were, adding to the disappointment. It did spawn a cool spin-off in Captain Toad though, which finally gave Toad a real identity like Luigi's Mansion gave one to Luigi. Super Mario Maker was an idea that should have happened a long time ago, though with the Gamepad this was probably the most logical system to release it. It got me back to the system for quite some time, and I played it a lot in a short timespan. Sadly though the game is dead now. New levels won't get played or Starred anymore online, a testiment to the low level of hardware sales no doubt.

Lastly there were the Zelda remasters, and The Wind Waker did a good job at increasing my appreciation for the game. It's still my least favorite 3D Zelda game, but the HD version repaired any repairable mistake the original game had. Twilight Princess deserved more though, there is little reason to play that version over the original Wii and Gamecube versions. Hopefully Breath of the Wild when it finally releases repairs some of my feeling towards the WiiU, hopefully it goes out with a bang.

EDIT: It occurs to me that across these threads I have now included a pretty big pile of Mario games, and not that many Zelda games. Pretty hard to believe I'm actually not a Mario-freak and Zelda's my favorite franchise instead isn't it? But it's true nonetheless.

Smash Wii U was the reason I got my Wii U, and it's probably my second fav game this gen (besides Overwatch.)

Besides that, I loved Bayonetta 2 and Pikmin 3, and Splatoon was a surprise hit for me.

Everything else was ok for me, but Star Fox Zero and Xenoblade X were some of the most disappointing games I've ever played.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

It didnt take much to make a game infinitely better imo, with gamepad use. I mean even the bare bones use of it in like Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag was amazing. THe map always below you. I would constantly look down to get a grasp of the area and where I shoudl go and my objective and stuff.

Wind Waker's use of it made the GC version basically unplayable now.

Lego City Undercover had a neat use of it from what I recal. It was acting as like his cell phone and even had sound come out of it solely during certain events.

As for my top games, probably

AC4, Xenoblade X, Hyrule Warriors, Batman Arkham Origins, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE. I refuse to list any remakes, HD verions, ect of games. Not that they aren't good, just don't like listing say Wind Waker HD as a best game when the game is like 10 years old.
