I also got ZombiU at launch, which remains the best use of the Gamepad, which says it all. I remember buying Lego City Undercover 6 months later just to have something to play. It was ok, it passed a few hours, but nothing impressive. I then played some Earthbound over the summer, again just because I wanted something to play. Put about 20 hours into it, didn't really click with me The best part of the Wii U's life was the last five months of 2013. Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, Wonderful 101, Super Mario 3D World and Windwaker HD was a great lineup and finish to that year. 2014 was shit. Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8 and Captain Toad were good, but I don't remember anything else 2015, Splatoon was a breath of fresh air. Like the small campaign, loved the main multiplayer mode. But the other modes they added I didn't enjoy and there was increasing connectivity problems. So that was disappointing. As was Super Mario Maker, I loved the concept but all people were making at the beginning was auto-scrollers or super difficult levels, so I soon gave up with that. I understand it's a lot better now, but I no longer care enough to check. Woolly World was enjoyable. 2016: pretty much given up on the console at this point. Didn't bother catching up with Xenoblade, didn't bother with Tokyo Sessions even though I was looking forward to them for years. Overall, I would give the console 3/10. It had five or six great games, which isn't close to enough. |
I wouldn't say Zombie U had the best use of the gamepad. I'dsay the best use of it was Super Mario Maker, Windwaker HD, or Xenoblade Chronicles X. Maybe it's just me though.

It didnt take much to make a game infinitely better imo, with gamepad use. I mean even the bare bones use of it in like Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag was amazing. THe map always below you. I would constantly look down to get a grasp of the area and where I shoudl go and my objective and stuff.
Wind Waker's use of it made the GC version basically unplayable now.
Lego City Undercover had a neat use of it from what I recal. It was acting as like his cell phone and even had sound come out of it solely during certain events.
As for my top games, probably
AC4, Xenoblade X, Hyrule Warriors, Batman Arkham Origins, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE. I refuse to list any remakes, HD verions, ect of games. Not that they aren't good, just don't like listing say Wind Waker HD as a best game when the game is like 10 years old.
