Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can Scalebound be rescued?

We would need to see the contract to be sure... perhaps there is a forfeit clause that if either company decides to drop the project the other may find a new partner and continue from where it was halted

Microsoft cannot affort to lose more new IP, because they cannot make their own. that would be considered hot by any stretch of the imagination. This first and foremost is why its imperative. Unless they found another third party to make games for them this year is going to suck.

They can afford to lose it because it wasn't that important. Cult classic at best.

They do make/fund new IPs, whether you care about them or not. They just don't bother to make many.

Sony has done a better job with new IPs but their biggest hits have been established IPs. All the 1st parties have been playing it pretty safe.

Not sure if this is gonna be a great year for MS 1st party. But with Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, Sea of Theives, State of Decay 2, Forza 7 and hopefully a Halo 3 remaster, it could be solid. Hopefully MS has some surprises at E3. Atleast you would expect some big plans with Scorpio coming.

Eh?

Do you think they'd do that considering Halo 3's already in the Master Collection?

If anything, I would hope they recycle assets used in Scalebound to make a more traditional Platinum action game.

Odds of that happening though... very slim.

Well its the most dated looking game in that collection. So it would benefit from a visual overhaul. Maybe it could be an add-on for MCC, so sell MCC with the add-on.

Saber Interactive was already working with the Halo 3 engine for the cancelled PC F2P game. So they already have experience with it.

Anywho, I think a lot of people will be disappointed if we don't get a remaster. Seems like easy money for MS.

Hmm Sea of Thieves seems to be a MS created IP. Thats just one out of many games coming out this year.

You missed the sentence after "that would be considered hot". I have a bad feeling about Sea of Thieves. Quantum Break sold terribly too... I'm not sure Microsoft have created a New IP that sold over 1.5m this generation.

In fact, have Microsoft's Own Studios even made a New IP? Sunset Overdrive, Ryse, Quantum Break... they're not made by Microsoft's Studios.

And I think that's exactly S.T.A.G.E's point.

So now where talking about sales and not new IPs?

Nice twist. Bottom line is MS invest plenty for new ideas. Ori and the Blind forest was a little master piece not long ago and Cuphead seems to be another in 2017. Nothing wrong with 3rd party devs making there games. The ideas and stories all come from MS than MS hire a team to put it togother eg Scalebound being the idea and Platinum games being the hired dev to create it.

There was no twist, you just didn't read the person you quoted propperly.

I dont like platinum Games type of games but i dont want them to go belly up because of this , hope someone picks this up if possible.

They won't go belly up, they get paid while developing. Microsoft on the other hand just spent a lot of money on nothing.

Quote - Microsoft *one of the richest companies in the world* cannot afford to lose more new IP..

Sorry that sentence cracked me up.

Hmm Sea of Thieves seems to be a MS created IP. Thats just one out of many games coming out this year. ea of thieves is a joke i you're using that as an argument vs their competition. MS is no where on their level in new IP production and still have not proven it in their third gen.  I have my xbox and love it, but ive admitted long ago that Microsoft is a crap developer with little imaginatuon. Gears and Halo were both bought.  Seriously, they've only been good at creating simulations since flight simulator. Crackdown is a joke to be putting up agaianst the competition as well. Its like i mean...what world are we living in?

Dude...do you even realize what you're doing? You're hyping up mid-tier games that aren't even proven yet. Word has it that Crackdown is having a rocky developmental cycle too. I mean Nintendo and Sony put more thought into their internal games so it shouldnt be that hard for Microsoft to make basic concepts outside of simulators. Microsoft still struggles to prove themselves as a development studios and even Phil Spencer even addressed this. This is exactly why I've always said Microsoft needs to get their first party under control before they even think about putting so much faith in third party. They've dropped like three major exclusives ( which werent major to begin with) ...but its microsoft so we give them the benefit of the doubt since they cannot do it themselves.

Well I guess Platinum could go to some other publisher and try to make a similar game with a similar concept.

They would have to obviously change the character designs and name though, but Microsoft can't exactly stop them from making a game about dragons for example.
