Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy VII Remake and Kingdom Hearts III still have a way to go, says Tetsuya Nomura

I still expect the 1st part of the FF7 game to hit this year. If not, they'll at least release an extended demo for the 20th anniversary, with a release in 2018. KH3 I don't expect until 2019/20. Maybe even a cross-gen game. I also wouldn't be surprised if FF7 gets the cross-gen treatment. Probably the whole collection will come out on the PS5 the same year, or a year after, the final chapter releases.

I hope the reason is not because he put a lot of effort on creating world 10 times bigger then FF XV Lol. And creating open world under sea level.

So Kingdom Hearts 3 is the new Versus XIII, is it?

Considering they're supposed to be splitting the games into multiple parts, I don't really see how it's taking this long with FFVII Remake.

yea they still have to make plenty of day one dlc. ofc on disc.

I'm not expecting either one until late 2018 to spring 2019. That is just how Square rolls these days.

I can't say I'm surprised by this. I hope KH3 doesn't come out later than 2018. If it comes out in early 2018, I'll be playing it exactly 10 years after the first time I played KH2, which was in early 2008.

See you in 2020, folks!

It's pretty ironic considering that it only took a year to develop the original FFVII, yet it's taking them over 3 years for just one part of it.

No the original FFVII took 3 years to make.  Planning sessions began in 1994 after FFVI was released and the game was released 3 years later in 1997.

In Polygon's article that they just released, it states that the original FFVII was scrapped after Chrono Trigger went through development problems, the FFVII that we got was different from that:

Yeah, considering how it's a remake, a lot of the though into the story and art direction should already be decided. If it's going to take 4-5 years for just part 1, how long until the game is actually completed?
