I usually prefer the limited edition consoles as long as the limited edition console looks good, but I wouldn't buy a another version of a console just because it's limited edition.  I currently have the Fire Emblem Fates New 3DS XL and the Diamond and Pearl DS Lite.

I'd have to say sort of.

I won't go out of my way to buy a unique edition, but if there are choices at the time of purchase and those choices are similar enough in cost, i'll buy the one that appeals the most.

As an example, if Nintendo does a limited edition ZeldaBotW at launch for NS and it is not more than about $50 the cost of a normal NS, then I'll buy that. Otherwise the standard black we've seen is all good to me.

For portables, yes.

Consoles. not really.

Sometimes, not always, limited editions look great on their own but they look hideous and clash with everything when you put them on your shelves. I guess I'm OCD when it comes to my game room.

Black or a dark grey are always my favorites for home consoles. They have to be as unobtrusive as possible in the living room.

Color or how a console looks doesn't matter to me at all, however a studio Ghibli themed Nintendo Switch would be my weak point.

All else being equal, I would choose a color that I like, obviously. But, I wouldn't spend one extra cent, or drive to one extra store to get it (unless the only thing available was a color was something that would look ridiculous in my entertainment center. Then I may drive to one or two more stores). I damn sure would not re-buy a console just to get one that looks different.

I own an original XBone. I prefer the white XB1S. But, there is no way that I would buy one, unless mine breaks.

While we're kind of on the subject, I've heard much talk about how the PS4 looks better than the XBone. I just got a PS4 Pro for xmas, and it sits just below my xbone. So, I've now been able to do a side-by-side, in home comparison. I've got to say, to my American tastes, the XB looks much, much better.

But, on another aspect of design, the Pro's ventilation setup makes it much easier to house in my entertainment center. I have my XBone sitting on top of it. This would not work the other way around.
