Forums - Nintendo - As much as I love the Nintendo Switch idea... I still want a full 3DS successor!

Here is the thing, I think the smartest thing would be for Nintendo to allow for lower budget games (like truly the sequel games to the 3ds) to still develop for the Switch that cost less money ($40?) while also having the home console quality games on the same device ($60). That would be absolutely AMAZING if they did that and then it wouldn't feel like they are abandoning their handheld users that are used to a cheaper, less battery consuming, experience.

Like I said earlier, they already do this to an extent on Wii U.

They have $10-20 eShop titles and at retail they have games at $40-60.

I think its very possible that we see more of these $40 games like Captain Toad & Kirby Rainbow Curse to go along with $60 titles like Breath of the Wild or Xenoblade X.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

I could see them delivering a portable only SKU and a PS4 pro type home SKU in the future, the latter one only if the scalability between current docked/undocked works out and if there is a high enough demand.

Yes but those take either indie or Wii U teams to make those games. What I am proposing is that ALL their 3ds software teams work on games that look like what a true 3ds successor would look like (making the games cheaper and quicker to make, less expensive to sell, and drain the battery life less).

Switch is the 3DS successor, and with all Nintendo's eggs in one basket; the support should be awesome.

I can fit a 7" tablet in my back pocket quite easily. But, I don't see why this is important.

I'd be fine with a Switch mini down the road that has longer battery life to emphasize portability.

That said, the Switch is what I've wanted for a decade from Nintendo, a single library of games on a HD level system (I expect between Wii U and X1) for roughly $250-$300 at launch.  A ssomeone who uses their Vita to remot eplay PS4 games often the Switch model has already been sold to me, I just need games, price, and battery life.

If Switch sells 50m and Nintendo dont release a dedicated handheld (Switch is a hybrid), is that classed as successful?? Wii U and 3DS combined will reach 80million and its been classed as a poor gen for Nintendo. Im guessing Nintendo might have a 3DS type successor waiting in the wings in case Switch doesn't fly off the shelves. Its quite a dicey move from Nintendo when you think about it. Their console reputation cant get any lower, but if Switch is a disaster it could also harm its handheld reputation. I wonder how many Switches would have to be sold for Nintendo not to make another dedicated handheld.

It's launching mid gen. But as the 3DS is already claiming for a sucessor, I guess the time is right. They are probably hoping for at least 3DS level sales and that would be pretty great,

Speaking of the 3DS, I wonder if Nintendo would release some kind of joycon peripheral that would allow the Switch to be played vertically for DS/3DS emulation.

I see the Switch as the 3DS and Wii successor. The Wii U was more like the GameCube successor. The Wii was the NES successor. The reason I say that about the Wii is it was full of fresh and creative experiences while the SNES was probably more akin in content to what would later come out on DS.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Switch is a handheld that connects to a TV.

Nintendo needs a true home console successor next.

Yeah
