so does this mean sony won december npd

We don't know.

Well its interesting that Sony have released sales numbers (which I was assuming that Sony might have lost NPD), but MS have released totals hours played numbers, so I can only assume MS didnt win NPD.

What were Sony's sell-through expectations by the end of the holidays?

55m+, otherwise their forecast for shipments wouldn't make any sense.

Source? Quz the forcast was  20mill SHIPPED  in PY  2016 ending in march 2017.

It's just a matter of math. By the end of March 2016, there was a normal amount of PS4s on store shelves. The same will hold true by the end of March 2017. So if Sony forecasts shipments of 20m units, they also need to sell through 20m units, because retailers aren't going to increase the stock they have sitting on their store shelves.

The PS4 sold through 17.5m this calendar year, I guess 2-3m of that number were sold from January to March 2016. So for the currently running fiscal year, Sony has sold through 14.5-15.5m of their 20m goal. That leaves 4.5-5.5m for the January to March quarter which could only be attained by doubling the number of the previous year. That's unrealistic because the current momentum matches up closely with the one from one year ago, therefore at this point of the fiscal year the PS4 would have needed to be at least 1.5m higher than it actually is.

Good for you but where is the  source  where sony said they wanted 55+ sold though  numbers for the end of the  year? 😱

You have been downplaying  ps4's gigantic  success  ever since  they announced  the 53mill sold.

Microsoft  is to afraid  to let the world know how bad xbox  one is selling  and stopped  giving  numbers.

Nintendo  just  totally  gave up on one of the worst selling  game systems of all time, leaving  vita to even outsell it.

And sony just keep going  with the ps4 having  massive  success  and the ball is just starting  to roll.

There is noo logic for your  annoying  downplay.

Have a nice day.

Yeah, some people make the mistake of adding on extra consoles to get shipped figures. You only do this for initial shipment or if stock status changes.

Sony is going to miss it's PS4 forecast by a few million.

He's probably right, the forecast for shipments was made back in April if I recall. This was before Horizon and Gran Turismo were delayed to 2017, also they likely didn't predict Call of Duty would perform so badly this year.

Back in April they expected to sell more than 53.4m by the end of the year, but circumstances change.

But they did sell more than 53.4M - this is sell through number remember. So, shipped is probably more than 55M.

But what about the MAU? That is what I care about.

It would only be their best selling exclusive ever on PS that isn't gran Turismo

Or The Last of Us.

It already outsold the last of us on PS3, it´s only fair to compare them after the PS5 got an Uncharted 4 remake

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar
