Pro Trump.

It is notable as it is first sign of Draining the Swamp and also first sign that the great Donald is happy to go against his party in the name of his policies.

You really need to put down that 2 gallon jug of Cool-Aid, bro.

The GOP reversed their scheme to gut the ethics committee because tens of thousands of concerned citizens lit up the phones of their congressional representatives for the past 12 hours to register their outrage. It had NOTHING to do with the narcissistic Cheet-O tweeting about it a couple hours ago. Even his tweet didn't admonish the scheme, he just said it was 'bad timing' - meaning he supports it,  but it wasn't a top priority *today*

There will be no draining of the swamp. The status quo of the swamp is guaranteed under Trump

Except that simply is not true.

Anthony Zurcher is the BBC Trump stalker, he hates Trump as much as any NYT nobody.

A win for Trump - Anthony Zurcher, BBC News, Washington

Donald Trump's tweets have teeth. The president-elect took to social media to express his displeasure with the move and within hours those legislative efforts were abandoned.

The independent ethics investigators had been a source of discomfort for members of Congress on both sides of the aisle, and there was significant interest in limiting their ability to conduct inquiries.

Even after Mr Trump's tweets, many congressional Republicans appeared reluctant to back down. House Speaker Paul Ryan, an initial opponent of the measure, issued a statement defending the change.

That ended up being little comfort to the party rank and file, however, as pressure increased for them to bend to Mr Trump's political will. In his first confrontation with congressional leadership, the president-elect displayed his dominance.

Yeah, exactly. He was talking about priority, not that it was a bad thing to do. He even called the ethics committee "unfair".

Was it the Donald or the huge public outcry from around the globe? The D tweets and suddenly commands are answered? That's not how separate branches of government work...

salute him for saying "not at this time"? lol, what kind of weak victim shit is that "when his buddies tried to hit us he said 'not now, let's focus on taking their money first' - isn't he just the best?"

I might praise the donald if he ousts the people responsible for putting this initiative on the table - that would actually be a step towards "draining the swamp"

Of course the media is going to jump all over Trump's tweet as the impetus for the GOP reversal and ignore the real reason. You know as well as I do that most of the media have their heads so far up Trump's a** (either as supporters or fascinated detractors) that they can see nothing else. There's more ratings to be had covering a Trump tweet than the fact that citizens flooded their representative's phone banks with calls.

Its like I said. The GOP is as cowardly as I thought they were. In the end they will bow down to Trump and give him whatever he wants. This one thing might be a good thing since it keeps Congress fair but this will have no effect whatsoever on whatever corruption comes from Trump himself.

indeed. So I give him credit from not making the congress MORE corrupt. Although this does nothing to "drain the swamp".  All it does is keep it from getting further polluted.

It is like someone falling down, and giving them a hand up. You don't get points for being nice. The right thing to do is the right thing to do with no reward. He did it because if he didn't do it - it would be a huge negative. Like kicking the person that fell down.  Thus he has only one option.

Thank you for edit removal of hostilities regarding CNN breakign news which was sarcasm and bi-partisan.

Your statement is factually correct however it fails to note one important point that is puppeted repeatedly by liberal commentators.

Donald has stood up to his own party, the republican establishment over an issue that is directly related to corruption in washington.

He has gone against the tide of corruption and has not even taken office yet.

Paul Ryan and others are against this too, so it's hardly standing up to his entire party.

And funny that people now realize that the bulk of Republican ideals are anti-middle class in reality.

How much deception are we going to get from Trump's dectractors now ?

Damn, the fake news is real people when it's coming from the likes of Soundwave ...

Paul Ryan is all over the map on this it appears:

http://www.latimes.com/nation/politics/trailguide/la-na-trailguide-updates-speaker-paul-ryan-gop-leaders-unable-1483462553-htmlstory.html

"House Speaker Paul D. Ryan and top Republicans had warned colleagues not to pursue the proposal, which would have weakened the independent ethics office.

But the GOP leaders initially appeared resigned Tuesday after rank-and-file lawmakers supported the change, testing the leaders' ability to control their majority."

Not surprising that he flip flops on everything though.

Majority of GOP positions are anti-middle class, the way they trick middle/low income people into thinking giving more tax breaks to rich people, giving more rights to corporations, while accepting cuts to their own health care, education, child care, and other services is hilarious actually.

Note too from the sounds of it Trump/Repubs like Ryan aren't saying "don't do this ever", they just don't want to do it now because it doesn't look good, the idiots at the GOP are already so drunk on power they thought they could get away with doing this on the first day of the new congress. Gotta get those tax breaks for their ultra rich buddies done first, then they can revisit this and do it quietly when the American people are not paying as much attention.

Good then.

Except when it comes to appointing people to important positions within the actual government :). And how to you drain the swamp if this reversal means nothing has changed?
