Forums - Gaming - Nintendo/Microsoft What-If?

It would be better if Nintendo didn't scrap its partnership with Sony so Nintendo PlayStation would be a thing :p
OT if it's marketed as a Nintendo branded Xbox I think it could have a chance. Otherwise no, Xbox brand was never be popular in Japan, especially at that time MS is still a new kid in the console market.

A handheld gamer only (for now).

They should team up now.

- Halo & Minecraft & Forza & Killer Instinct on Switch

- Some Nintendo IP on XBox, like Metroid, but not enough so that people still need to buy a Switch. Like Nintendo does on iOS/Android, enough to give people a taste.

- Nintendo takes over marketing/distribution of XBox in (non UK) Europe and Asia.

- MS gives Nintendo a big fat money hat.

- N64 Mini with GoldenEye + Perfect Dark + Conker + Blast Corps as some of the included games.

It would be good for gamers to have a stronger single competitor to Sony rather than two disjointed ones.

In the 2000s, Nintendo should have just accepted MS' offer to use Windows if they agreed not to enter the console business. It would have been a small price to pay to ensure at least a no.2 finish every gen, and who really cares what OS is on the system anyway. It wasn't worth making a billion+ dollar company into a competitor over.

It would definitely give PlayStation a run for its money.

That`s.... a pretty dumb idea. You`re effectively saying Microsoft should pay Nintendo to take over their Xbox division. I`m sure Nintendo would bite MS` hands off for a deal like that since it`s stacked entirely in their favour but Microsoft would need to be run by a complete idiot or something to not only agree to something like this but actually pay out a `big fat money hat` for a deal that quite literally only has negatives for them.

They'd be getting a brand that could actually sell their hardware in those markets though ... MS has had 15 years to show they can make inroads in broader Europe and Japan and they're still basically right where they started off.

Plus Nintendo games would help them globally.

It's not like the XBox division is really anything but a vanity project for MS anyway, they don't need the peanuts of profit that come from the game business, it's the equivalent of a rich billionaire owning a sports team.

If any partnership were to take place or even a selling, I would prefer it be with Microsoft because that would increase the likelihood of PC ports. Highly unlikely if it were with Sony.

No they wouldn`t. With the exception of Japan Microsoft has been better at marketing the Xbox One in those markets than Nintendo have the Wii U. Not only that but under such a deal why would Nintendo market the Xbox at all? They`d be stupid to do such a thing when it`s a direct competitor to the Switch. It would be tantamount to discontinuing Xbox in those markets.

Nintendo games wouldn`t help them globally. Any impact they could have would be mitigated by the fact they`d still release on Switch and worse your propose that Nintendo only give them some of their games while all Microsoft franchises should be on Switch, that alone would harm Xbox sales far more than those Nintendo games would help them.

Furthermore Microsoft are using their 1st party games to also try to increase the appeal of Windows 10 and the Windows Store, releasing them elsewhere would not only undermine Xbox itself but would also undermine their plans for Windows 10.

Even if Xbox is just like a `rich billionaire owning a sports team` running it yourself and making a small profit from it is still vastly superior to paying someone else to run it resulting in losses.

Now of course a partnership between MS and Nintendo could work, but it would have to actually be a partnership, not just Microsoft paying for the `privilege` of being raped by Nintendo...

You could work out a deal that's more amenable to both sides I'm sure.

MS could handle the marketing, fine then (lol, I doubt Nintendo gives a shit), but letting them distribute at least in Asia probably would be smart on MS' part.

Nintendo could make specific games for the XBox, and others for the Switch. Just like their iOS/Android games are specific to those platforms, there's no Pokemon Go on the 3DS. And MS could make games for the Switch, and the two devices could even work together possibly.

But the deal would have to be more amenable to Nintendo IMO, just because they are quite frankly more picky about things. For MS, getting Nintendo support would be huge in just about any form.

Besides, Nintendo could always threaten to go make a partnership with Sony, in which case, MS would basically be done in the business anyway. I mean if you want to be evil about negotiating, that would be one card to play to get the best possible deal. If I was Nintendo I'd basically just keep going back between the two of them until I scored the best possible deal.

I have a grounded hate for Microsoft so I wouldn't be happy.
That and the problem with Xbox in Japan is also relegated to it's name. Xbox can easily be interpreted as "wrong-box" or "no-box", which is pretty stupid of Microsoft to not have thought this through.

eh, it`s hardly the first time a console has had a name that could be interpreted in a bad way. The Wii for example? That sounds like urine in English, but it didn`t prevent that from selling well.

You can't compare something vaguely sounding like a word for piss to a clearly defined symbol for No

Nintendo should have honored their agreement with Sony, did a limited release run of SNES CD then walked away. Sony wouldn't be around and Nintendo wouldn't be on the brink of collapse so much that they had to branch into mobile.

Nintendo would be dead like Nokia is today. And Mario, Pokemon and Zelda would be dead franchises like Banjo-Kazooie. After the failure of the Switch, Nintendo should form a joint-venture with Sonys Playstation division instead. Important is that the power stays in Japan.
