It would be good for gamers to have a stronger single competitor to Sony rather than two disjointed ones.

In the 2000s, Nintendo should have just accepted MS' offer to use Windows if they agreed not to enter the console business. It would have been a small price to pay to ensure at least a no.2 finish every gen, and who really cares what OS is on the system anyway. It wasn't worth making a billion+ dollar company into a competitor over. 

That`s.... a pretty dumb idea. You`re effectively saying Microsoft should pay Nintendo to take over their Xbox division. I`m sure Nintendo would bite MS` hands off for a deal like that since it`s stacked entirely in their favour but Microsoft would need to be run by a complete idiot or something to not only agree to something like this but actually pay out a `big fat money hat` for a deal that quite literally only has negatives for them.

They'd be getting a brand that could actually sell their hardware in those markets though ... MS has had 15 years to show they can make inroads in broader Europe and Japan and they're still basically right where they started off. 

Plus Nintendo games would help them globally. 

It's not like the XBox division is really anything but a vanity project for MS anyway, they don't need the peanuts of profit that come from the game business, it's the equivalent of a rich billionaire owning a sports team.
