Forums - Microsoft - New Xbox One Ad Says XBL Is "The Gaming Network That Won't Let You Down"

Identify a thing the fanbase believe to be true, regardless if it is or not, then exploit that belief for profit. Classic MS marketing.

Around the Network

Well, if you don't have any real strengths, you got to rely on highlighting the supposed weaknesses of your enemy. And that's pretty much MS is doing. Trying to exploit minor differences, inflating them to exaggerated proportions.

Microsoft cheap. As always. To avert the focus away from the lack of quality in their non existing exlusives.

Hunting Season is done...

It is the best network. Even Steam had that deal where they showed credit card information randomly and PSN was hacked and down for weeks. The only one who can really compete with MS for network stability is probably Nintendo.

XBL ain't lettin no dog down!?

Microsoft would like to sell you some complementary DLC for your network as a reminder of their commitment to you :3

If Steam is ever down, I've never noticed it.

I'm looking at aussieoutages.com and DotA2 is the #2 most reported product this week - 67% server connection issues and 32% log-in issues. EA is at #3 and Battlenet is at #8. The rest are non-gaming products.

Dota 2 is not Steam, so not sure why you're even bringing it up. I don't know its server configuration, but if I had to guess, I'd say it doesn't use Steam for more than basic authentication and that it does the rest on its own.

Steams Network is decentralised. It's impossible to take the entire network down completely.

There have been instances where DDOS attacks has taken down the Authentication servers for Steam which prevented people from logging in temporarily, but you can work around that easily enough.
Those that were logged in didn't notice any difference really.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the information!

It didn't really show credit card information. Well, sort of. It showed the last four digits, which isn't all that useful, especially if you only get it from a few random people, and I think it could also show other pages as well instead of just the personal info page. Anyway, it was more along the lines of scary than dangerous or harmful. So yeah, that was a problem, but not quite as bad you as make it sound. :)

It's a great gaming network alright!

I just hope it won't let me down on Christmas :P

Good luck, seems all three console networks go down on Christmas.

As is the problem, in general (though on one hand, I can't blame them - they're fed a narrative even by the media).

Oh come on. Not everything is the medias fault. I don't get why everyone is blaming the media for reporting what happens these days.

Been gaming on Xbox Live since 2003. Other than one Christmas where i was having a hard time getting on the network I can't think of one other time since that I've had major problems with live. Being totally serious. I can't but I'm sure it's been down but not affecting everyone. Have had my credit card info on their for 11 years with no incidents outside of my nephews buying things without my consent. I thought I was hacked but quickly figured that out and fixed the situation. I've no idea about PSN so I can't and won't speak on that

I started on Xbox Live in '07 and PSN in '08. I've been using both religiously, ever since. At the time, I felt like Xbox Live was literally worth $50 more than the free PSN. Sony slowly but surely closed the gap and made their service worth $50 (well, $60) as well.

Both are really close but, in my opinion, Xbox Live still takes it. I could go point by point but it's all just opinions. Nothing is going to sway anybody's opinion as to which service is better.

You say you don't know their server configurations but tell me DotA 2 and Steam use different infrastructures?
