Dota 2 is not Steam, so not sure why you're even bringing it up. I don't know its server configuration, but if I had to guess, I'd say it doesn't use Steam for more than basic authentication and that it does the rest on its own.

You say you don't know their server configurations but tell me DotA 2 and Steam use different infrastructures?
